4. Setup and Installation
Before beginning installation, ensure you have all necessary tools and components. It is recommended to have a second person assist with lifting and positioning the sink.
4.1 Required Tools
- Jigsaw or appropriate cutting tool for countertop
- Drill
- Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead)
- Adjustable wrench
- Sealant gun and silicone sealant
- Measuring tape and pencil
- Safety gloves and eye protection
4.2 Installation Steps
- Prepare the Countertop: Place the sink upside down on the countertop in the desired position. Trace the outline of the sink onto the countertop. Carefully measure and mark the cutting line, ensuring it is slightly inside the sink's rim to allow for proper support.
- Cut the Opening: Using a jigsaw or appropriate cutting tool, carefully cut along the marked line. Ensure the edges are smooth.
- Install Faucet and Accessories (Optional): If your sink has pre-drilled holes for a faucet or other accessories, install them now according to their respective manuals.
- Attach Waste Kits: Assemble the waste kits for both bowls. This typically involves placing the strainer into the drain hole, securing it with a rubber gasket and nut from underneath. Connect the overflow pipe to the designated opening in the main bowl.
- Apply Sealant: Apply a bead of silicone sealant around the perimeter of the sink opening on the underside of the sink rim. This will create a watertight seal between the sink and the countertop.
- Position the Sink: Carefully lower the sink into the countertop opening. Ensure it is properly aligned. Press down firmly to engage the sealant.
- Secure the Sink: From underneath the countertop, attach the mounting clips/fasteners to the sink rim and tighten them evenly. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the sink or countertop.
- Connect Plumbing: Connect the waste pipes from the sink bowls to your household drainage system. Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free.
- Test for Leaks: Run water into both sink bowls and check all connections for any signs of leakage. Address any leaks immediately.

6. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and proper care will help maintain the appearance and extend the life of your stainless steel sink.
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- After each use, rinse the sink thoroughly with clean water to remove food particles and soap residue.
- Wipe the sink dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots and mineral buildup, especially in hard water areas.
6.2 Deep Cleaning
- For stubborn stains, use a mild non-abrasive cleaner specifically designed for stainless steel.
- Apply the cleaner with a soft sponge or cloth and rub in the direction of the grain.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately.
6.3 What to Avoid
- Abrasive Cleaners: Do not use steel wool, abrasive pads, or harsh chemical cleaners (e.g., bleach, oven cleaner) as these can scratch or corrode the stainless steel.
- Acidic Foods: Avoid leaving highly acidic foods (e.g., citrus juices, vinegar) in contact with the sink surface for extended periods.
- Metal Objects: Do not leave wet cast iron or other metal objects in the sink, as they can cause rust stains.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your sink.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Water spots/Stains | Hard water deposits; not drying the sink after use. | Wipe the sink dry after each use. Use a stainless steel cleaner for existing spots. |
| Slow draining | Drain blockage (food particles, grease). | Clear the basket strainer. Use a plunger or a drain cleaner designed for kitchen sinks. |
| Leaks under the sink | Loose plumbing connections; improperly sealed drain or overflow. | Check and tighten all plumbing connections. Re-seal drain or overflow if necessary. |
| Scratches on surface | Abrasive cleaning materials; sharp objects. | Use only soft cloths and non-abrasive cleaners. Minor scratches may be buffed out with specialized stainless steel scratch removal kits. |
