Setup and Installation

The SportRack SR1098 is designed for easy installation on vehicles with factory raised side rails measuring 0.75" to 2" in diameter. No drilling is required. Please refer to the enclosed fit guide for specific vehicle compatibility and detailed measurements.

Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare Your Vehicle: Open all vehicle doors and thoroughly clean the roof surface where the rack will attach. Ensure the area is free of dirt and debris to prevent scratching and ensure a secure fit.
  2. Assemble Load Bars: Insert the rubber lining into the T-slot of the load bars. This protects the surface and helps secure accessories.
  3. Attach Feet to Load Bars: Slide the feet onto the load bars. Ensure the rubber lining on the feet is correctly positioned to protect your vehicle's side rails.
  4. Position the Rack: Carefully place the assembled front load bar onto your vehicle's raised side rails. Adjust its position according to your vehicle's fit guide.
  5. Tighten the Feet: Use the provided tamper-proof tool to tighten the bolts on each foot. Tighten all four feet equally to ensure even pressure and a secure fit. The rubber lining protects the surface of the railing from scratching.
  6. Install Rear Load Bar: Repeat the process for the rear load bar, ensuring it is parallel to the front bar and positioned according to your vehicle's fit guide.
  7. Verify Tightness: After installation, double-check that all feet are securely tightened.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, your SportRack Roof Rack System is ready for use. It can hold up to 150 pounds (68 kilograms) of cargo. Always ensure your cargo is evenly distributed and securely fastened to the load bars using appropriate tie-downs or accessories (sold separately).

  • Load Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 150 pounds (68 kg) for the roof rack system. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual for its specific roof load capacity, and never exceed the lower of the two ratings.
  • Secure Cargo: Use proper tie-downs, straps, or specialized carriers (e.g., bike racks, kayak carriers) to secure your cargo. Ensure there is no movement or shifting of items during transit.
  • Driving with Cargo: Drive cautiously, especially at higher speeds or in windy conditions. Be aware of increased vehicle height and width when entering garages, drive-thrus, or low-clearance areas.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and safe operation of your SportRack Roof Rack System.

  • Check Tightness: Periodically check all mounting bolts and connections to ensure they remain tight. This is especially important after the first few uses and before long trips.
  • Clean Regularly: Clean the roof rack system with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish or rubber components.
  • Inspect Components: Regularly inspect the load bars, feet, and rubber linings for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Replace any damaged parts immediately.
  • Winter Care: In colder climates, ensure no ice buildup around the feet or moving parts.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your SportRack Roof Rack System, consider the following:

  • Loose Rack: If the rack feels loose, re-tighten all mounting bolts evenly. Ensure the rubber linings are properly seated.
  • Noise/Whistling: Wind noise can occur. Ensure all rubber strips are properly installed in the load bar channels. Adjusting the position of the load bars slightly may also help.
  • Difficulty Closing Doors: If the rack interferes with door closure, re-check the installation and ensure the feet are correctly positioned on the raised side rails and not obstructing the door frame.
  • Scratches on Vehicle: Ensure all rubber protective components are in place and undamaged. Avoid over-tightening, which can cause pressure marks.
