Setup

1. Prepare the Lancing Device:

   Unscrew the cap from the lancing device. The cap is typically gray and located at the tip of the device.

2. Insert a New Lancet:

   Take a new, sterile lancet. Insert the lancet firmly into the lancet holder until it is fully seated. Twist off the round protective cap from the lancet and save it for safe disposal of the used lancet.

3. Replace the Cap:

   Carefully replace the lancing device cap. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
4. Adjust Penetration Depth:

   Rotate the adjustable comfort dial on the lancing device cap to select the desired penetration depth. Settings typically range from 1 (shallowest) to 5 (deepest), with half-stop increments for fine-tuning. Start with a shallower setting (e.g., 2) and adjust as needed to obtain a sufficient blood sample.

Operating Instructions

1. Load the Lancing Device:

   Pull back the sliding barrel until it clicks. This cocks the device, preparing it for lancing. The release button will now be visible or extended.
2. Select Puncture Site:

   Wash your hands with warm, soapy water and dry them thoroughly. Choose a clean, dry fingertip, preferably on the side, to minimize discomfort.

3. Perform the Lancing:

   Place the lancing device firmly against the chosen puncture site. Press the release button to activate the lancet. The lancet will quickly prick your skin and retract.

4. Obtain Blood Sample:

   Gently squeeze your finger from the base towards the puncture site to form a small drop of blood. Do not squeeze excessively, as this can dilute the sample. Apply the blood drop to your test strip as instructed by your blood glucose meter's manual.
5. Eject Used Lancet:

   Carefully remove the lancing device cap. Place the protective cap (saved from step 2 of Setup) on a flat surface and carefully push the exposed lancet needle into it. Alternatively, use the lancet ejector mechanism if available on your device model. Dispose of the capped lancet in a sharps container.

Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the lancing device with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the device in water or any cleaning solution.
• Storage: Store the lancing device and lancets in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep them in their original packaging or the provided carrying case.

Troubleshooting

• Insufficient Blood Sample: If you do not get enough blood, try increasing the penetration depth setting on the comfort dial. Ensure the lancing device is held firmly against the skin.
• Painful Lancing: If lancing is too painful, try a shallower penetration depth setting. Ensure you are lancing on the side of your fingertip, which typically has fewer nerve endings.
• Device Malfunction: If the lancing device does not function correctly, ensure a lancet is properly inserted and the device is cocked. If issues persist, contact Abbott customer service.
