  1. Power Connection: Connect the included 12V DC power supply to the 'DC 12V' port on the rear of the camera. Plug the power supply into a suitable electrical outlet.
  2. Video Output:
    • HDMI: Connect an HDMI cable from the 'HDMI' port to your display or capture device.
    • 3G-SDI: Connect an SDI cable from the 'HD-SDI' port to a compatible SDI switcher or recorder.
    • LAN (IP Streaming): Connect an Ethernet cable from the 'LAN' port to your network router or switch for IP streaming and control.
    • CVBS (Composite): Connect a composite video cable from the 'CVBS' port for standard definition output. Note that composite output operates independently at 480i/576i resolution.
  3. Audio Input: Connect an audio source to the 'LINE IN' 3.5mm port to embed audio into the HDMI or LAN stream.
  4. Control Connections:
    • RS-232: Use the provided RS-232 cable to connect to a PTZ controller or computer for serial control. Daisy-chaining is supported via RS-232 IN/OUT ports.
    • RS-485: Connect to an RS-485 control system if required.
    • USB 2.0: This port is for future use or specific applications and is not for direct USB video streaming.
  5. System Select Dial: Adjust the 'SYSTEM SELECT' dial to set the desired video output resolution for simultaneous HDMI, SDI, and LAN outputs.

Initial Configuration

After making physical connections, power on the camera. For IP streaming and advanced settings, access the camera's web interface via its IP address. The default IP address and login credentials can be found in the full user manual available on the PTZOptics website. Ensure your computer is on the same network subnet as the camera for initial access.

Operating the Camera

Pan, Tilt, and Zoom Control

The PTZOptics-20X-SDI GEN-2 camera features precise Pan, Tilt, and Zoom (PTZ) capabilities. Control can be achieved using the included IR remote control, an external PTZ joystick controller via RS-232/RS-485, or through the web interface via IP.

  • 20x Optical Zoom: Utilize the 20x optical zoom to achieve clear, detailed shots from various distances.
  • Digital Zoom: An additional 24x digital zoom is available for further magnification, though with potential loss of image quality.
  • PTZ Presets: Store up to 255 PTZ presets (10 via IR remote) for quick recall of specific camera positions and zoom levels.

Video Outputs and Streaming

The camera offers versatile video output options:

  • Simultaneous Outputs: HDMI, 3G-SDI, and LAN outputs can be used concurrently at the same resolution, selected via the rear dial.
  • IP Streaming: The LAN port supports dual H.264 or H.265 RTSP signals (one HD, one SD) or a single MJPEG signal. This allows direct distribution to CDNs and streaming services.
  • Resolution: Supports full 1920x1080 video resolution at up to 60/50 frames per second.

Audio Integration

The 3.5mm audio input allows you to embed external audio into your HDMI signal or IP stream, ensuring synchronized audio and video delivery.

Low Light Performance

The camera is designed for effective operation in low-light conditions, featuring a fast f/1.8 - f/2.8 lens aperture, a minimum illumination requirement of 0.5 lux at f/1.8, and advanced 2D and 3D noise reduction technologies.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. If necessary, use a small amount of lens cleaning solution. Avoid abrasive materials.
  • Camera Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, ensuring no moisture enters the ports or openings.
  • General: Ensure the camera is powered off and disconnected from all cables before cleaning.

Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the camera in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the original packaging or a padded case to protect it from dust and physical damage.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your PTZOptics-20X-SDI GEN-2 camera, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Ensure the 12V DC power supply is securely connected to both the camera and a working power outlet. Check the power switch on the rear of the camera.
  • No Video Output:
    • Verify that video cables (HDMI, SDI, LAN) are correctly connected and not damaged.
    • Confirm the display or capture device is set to the correct input source.
    • Check the 'SYSTEM SELECT' dial on the camera's rear to ensure the output resolution is compatible with your receiving device.
  • Control Issues (PTZ):
    • For IR remote, ensure batteries are fresh and there are no obstructions between the remote and the camera's IR receiver.
    • For RS-232/RS-485, verify cable connections and controller settings (baud rate, address).
    • For IP control, ensure the camera has a valid IP address and your control software is configured correctly.
  • IP Configuration Issues: If you experience difficulty accessing the web interface or streaming over IP, consult the detailed network setup guides available on the official PTZOptics support website. Network configurations can be complex and may require specific settings for your environment.
