1. Safety Instructions

4. Setup

4.1 Connecting the Power Adapter

1. Insert the DC plug of the AC power adapter into the DC input jack located on the back of the charger.
2. Plug the AC power adapter into a standard wall outlet (240V).
3. Alternatively, for in-car use, insert the DC plug of the car adapter into the charger's DC input jack and plug the car adapter into your vehicle's 12V accessory socket.
4. The LCD displays will illuminate, indicating the charger is ready for use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Inserting Batteries

1. Ensure the charger is connected to a power source.
2. Insert 1 to 16 AA or AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries into the charging slots. Observe the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated on the charger.
3. The charger can accommodate a mix of AA and AAA batteries simultaneously.
4. Each battery slot is independent. The LCD display will show the status for each inserted battery.

5.2 Charging Process

• Once batteries are inserted, the charger automatically detects the battery type and initiates the charging process.
• The LCD display for each slot will show the charging status, typically with a battery icon and bars indicating charge level. Blinking bars usually indicate active charging.
• The charger uses Delta V detection to determine when a battery is fully charged. Once charged, the display for that battery will show a full battery icon, and the charging current will switch to a trickle charge to maintain full capacity without overcharging.
• Charging time is approximately 4 hours for typical AA/AAA Ni-MH batteries, depending on their capacity and discharge level.

5.3 Refresher Mode

The NC-1600 features a refresher mode to help improve battery performance and extend lifespan, especially for older batteries or those exhibiting a "memory effect."

1. To activate refresher mode, insert the batteries and then press and hold the "REFRESH" button (located on the right side of the charger) for approximately 3 seconds.
2. The charger will first discharge the batteries completely, then automatically proceed to a full charge cycle.
3. The LCD display will indicate the refresher process.
4. Note: Refresher mode takes longer than a standard charge cycle due to the discharge phase.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from the power source before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
• Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging Ni-MH batteries frequently. Use the refresher mode periodically if batteries show signs of reduced capacity.
