Setup and First Use

Before using your Instant Pot Duo for the first time, please follow these steps to ensure safe and optimal performance.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Initial Cleaning:
    • Wash the inner pot, sealing ring, and steam rack with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
    • Wipe the exterior of the cooker base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the cooker base in water.
  3. Lid Assembly: Ensure the sealing ring is properly seated in the sealing ring rack on the underside of the lid. The anti-block shield should also be securely in place.
  4. Placement: Place the Instant Pot on a stable, level surface away from heat sources. Ensure adequate clearance around the unit for proper ventilation.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into the Instant Pot and then into a grounded electrical outlet. The display will show "OFF".
  6. Water Test (Initial Run): Perform a water test to familiarize yourself with the pressure cooking function and ensure the appliance is working correctly.
    • Add 3 cups (750 ml) of water to the inner pot.
    • Place the lid on the cooker, aligning the triangle mark on the lid with the triangle mark on the cooker base. Turn the lid clockwise until the lid handle aligns with the side handles of the cooker base.
    • Ensure the steam release handle is in the "Sealing" position.
    • Press the "Pressure Cook" button, then adjust the time to 5 minutes using the "+" or "-" buttons.
    • The cooker will begin preheating, and the display will show "On". Once pressure is reached, the float valve will rise, and the timer will begin counting down.
    • After 5 minutes, the cooker will beep and switch to "Keep Warm" mode. Carefully turn the steam release handle to the "Venting" position to quick release the pressure.
    • Once the float valve drops, open the lid by turning it counter-clockwise and lifting it off.

The "Keep Warm" feature is designed to maintain food temperature after cooking. It activates automatically after most cooking programs. To manually activate or adjust:

  • Press the "Keep Warm" button on the control panel.
  • Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the duration for which the food will be kept warm.

Care and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your Instant Pot Duo.

  • Inner Pot: The stainless steel inner pot is dishwasher safe. For stubborn food residue, soak with warm soapy water before cleaning.
  • Lid: The lid is dishwasher safe. Remove the sealing ring and anti-block shield before washing. Ensure all parts are dry before reassembling.
  • Sealing Ring: The silicone sealing ring should be removed and washed after each use. It may absorb odors from food; soaking in vinegar or baking soda solution can help. Replace the sealing ring every 12-18 months, or sooner if it shows signs of wear or damage.
  • Steam Release Handle: Remove and clean the steam release handle regularly to prevent blockages.
  • Condensation Collector: Empty and clean the condensation collector located at the back of the cooker base after each use.
  • Cooker Base: Wipe the exterior of the cooker base with a clean, damp cloth. Never immerse the cooker base in water or any other liquid.
