1. Important Safety Instructions

  • Do not use without the clear bin and filters in place.
  • Turn off all controls before unplugging.
  • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.

3. Setup and Assembly

4.1 Powering On and Off

  • To Turn On: Press the red power button located on the main body of the vacuum.
  • To Turn Off: Press the red power button again.
  • Brush Bar Control: A separate button controls the brush bar. Press it to activate for carpets and rugs, and press again to deactivate for hard floors or delicate surfaces.

  • Carpet Cleaning: For carpets and rugs, ensure the brush bar is activated. Push the vacuum forward and pull back in overlapping passes for thorough cleaning.
  • Hard Floor Cleaning: For hard floors (wood, tile, laminate), deactivate the brush bar to prevent scratching and scattering debris.
  • Maneuvering: The Dyson Ball technology allows for easy steering around furniture and obstacles with a simple twist of the wrist.

4.3 Using Attachments

The vacuum comes with several tools for specialized cleaning tasks.

  1. Detach Wand: To use attachments, pull the wand release catch and lift the wand from the main body.
  2. Attach Tool: Securely attach the desired tool to the end of the wand or directly to the hose.
  3. Included Tools:
    • Tangle-free Turbine tool: For pet hair on upholstery and carpets.
    • Carbon fiber soft dusting brush: For delicate surfaces.
    • Reach under tool: For cleaning under low furniture.
    • Mattress tool: For removing dust and allergens from mattresses.
    • Multi-angle brush: For cleaning at various angles.
    • Combination tool: A crevice tool and brush in one.
    • Stair tool: For cleaning stairs and carpet edges.
  4. Reattach Wand: After use, remove the tool and reinsert the wand into the main body until it clicks into place.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance of your Dyson vacuum cleaner.

5.1 Emptying the Clear Bin

Empty the clear bin as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX level mark. Do not overfill.

  1. Press the red bin release button located on the top of the cyclone assembly.
  2. Carry the vacuum to a waste bin.
  3. Hold the vacuum over the bin and press the red bin release button again to open the bin base. The dirt will fall out.
  4. Close the bin base firmly until it clicks into place.
  5. Reattach the clear bin to the main body, ensuring it clicks securely.

Note: This Dyson model does not have filters that require washing or replacement. The Cinetic science technology eliminates this maintenance step.

5.2 Clearing Blockages

If suction power decreases, check for blockages in the following areas:

  • Clear Bin Inlet: Check where the clear bin connects to the main body.
  • Hose and Wand: Detach the hose and wand and inspect for any obstructions.
  • Cleaner Head: Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Inspect the cleaner head and brush bar for tangled hair or debris. You may need to use scissors to cut away tangled hair from the brush bar.

Always ensure the vacuum is unplugged before checking for blockages or performing any maintenance.

5.3 General Cleaning

  • Wipe the exterior of the vacuum with a damp cloth. Do not use detergents or polishes.
  • Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling and using the vacuum.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Vacuum has no power. Not plugged in; power outlet not working; circuit breaker tripped. Ensure the plug is fully inserted into a working outlet. Check your home's circuit breaker.
Loss of suction. Clear bin is full; blockage in hose, wand, or cleaner head. Empty the clear bin. Refer to Section 5.2 "Clearing Blockages" for inspection and removal.
Brush bar not rotating. Brush bar control button off; blockage in cleaner head; thermal cut-out activated. Ensure the brush bar button is pressed. Unplug and check the cleaner head for obstructions. If the motor is hot, unplug and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes.
Unusual noise. Blockage in airflow path; foreign object caught in brush bar. Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Inspect the clear bin, hose, wand, and cleaner head for any foreign objects or blockages.
