Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device to ensure safe and correct usage and to maximize the lifespan of your balance.

2. Safety Information

Observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury and damage to the equipment:

  • Only operate the balance in a stable, level environment free from vibrations and drafts.
  • Ensure the power supply matches the specifications indicated on the balance.
  • Do not expose the balance to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Avoid spilling liquids or corrosive substances on the balance. In case of spillage, disconnect power immediately and clean carefully.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the balance yourself. Refer all servicing to authorized personnel.
  • Use only Sartorius-approved accessories and spare parts.

4. Setup

4.1. Unpacking and Placement

  1. Remove the balance carefully from its packaging.
  2. Place the balance on a stable, level, and vibration-free surface, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air currents (e.g., air conditioning vents).
  3. Adjust the leveling feet until the air bubble in the spirit level is centered.
  4. Assemble the draft shield and weighing pan according to the diagrams in the quick start guide (if provided).

4.2. Power Connection

  1. Connect the power adapter to the balance and then to a suitable power outlet.
  2. Allow the balance to warm up for at least 30 minutes after connecting to power to ensure optimal measurement stability.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Weighing

  1. Press the [ON/OFF] button to switch on the balance.
  2. Wait for the display to show "0.0000 g" or the selected unit.
  3. Place the empty weighing container on the weighing pan.
  4. Press the [TARE] button to zero the display. The display will show "0.0000 g".
  5. Carefully add the substance to be weighed into the container.
  6. Read the stable weight value from the digital touchscreen display.
  7. Remove the container from the weighing pan.

5.2. Changing Weighing Units

The Secura 225D-1S supports various weighing units. To change the unit, navigate through the menu on the touchscreen display. Refer to the on-screen prompts for specific steps.

6. Calibration

The Sartorius Secura 225D-1S features isoCAL, an internal, fully automatic calibration and adjustment function. This ensures high accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

6.1. Automatic Internal Calibration (isoCAL)

The balance performs isoCAL automatically at regular intervals, after changes in temperature, or if a defined time interval has elapsed. No user intervention is typically required for routine internal calibration.

6.2. Manual External Calibration

For specific applications or regulatory requirements, manual external calibration with certified weights may be necessary. Consult the on-screen menu for instructions on initiating a manual calibration procedure. Ensure you use appropriate OIML Class E1 or E2 calibration weights for optimal accuracy.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning

  • Disconnect the balance from the power supply before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, damp cloth with a mild, non-abrasive cleaning agent to clean the exterior surfaces.
  • The weighing pan and draft shield components can be removed and cleaned separately with warm water and a mild detergent. Ensure they are completely dry before reassembly.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the balance's finish or internal components.

7.2. Care and Storage

  • When not in use, keep the draft shield closed to protect the weighing system from dust and debris.
  • Store the balance in a clean, dry environment within the specified operating temperature range.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the balance to sudden impacts.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Balance does not turn on. No power supply; faulty power adapter. Check power cable connection; try a different outlet; test power adapter.
Unstable readings. Vibrations; air currents; unstable surface; temperature fluctuations. Ensure stable surface; close draft shield; relocate balance away from drafts; allow warm-up time.
Display shows "Error" message. Overload; internal fault. Remove excess weight; restart balance. If error persists, contact service.
Inaccurate measurements. Needs calibration; dirty weighing pan; incorrect leveling. Perform calibration; clean weighing pan; re-level the balance.

For issues not listed here or if solutions do not resolve the problem, please contact Sartorius customer support or an authorized service technician.
