Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective operation of your Beurer BM47 Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor. Please read these instructions thoroughly before first use and keep them for future reference. This device is designed for non-invasive measurement and monitoring of arterial blood pressure in adults on the upper arm. It detects irregular heartbeats and classifies measurements according to WHO guidelines.

Setup

1. Unpacking and Battery Installation

Carefully remove the device from its packaging. Verify that all components listed in the 'What's in the Box' section are present: the monitor, 4x AA batteries, universal cuff, instruction manual, and storage case.

Open the battery compartment on the back of the device and insert the four AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.

2. Setting Date and Time

Accurate date and time settings are crucial for tracking your measurements. To set the date and time:

  1. With the device off, press and hold the 'M' (Memory) button for at least 3 seconds. The year display will begin to flash.
  2. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the year. Press 'M' to confirm.
  3. Repeat this process for the month, day, hour, and minute, confirming each setting with the 'M' button.

3. Selecting User Memory

The BM47 supports up to 4 users with 30 memory spaces each. To select your user profile:

  1. Press the '+' or '-' buttons to cycle through the user profiles (indicated by a small person icon with a number).
  2. Press the Start/Stop button (power button) to confirm your selection.

4. Attaching the Cuff

Proper cuff placement is essential for accurate readings.

  1. Ensure your left upper arm is bare.
  2. Position the cuff 2 to 3 cm above your elbow. The line on the cuff should point towards the center of your palm.
  3. The cuff should be snug but not too tight; you should be able to fit two fingers underneath it.
  4. Ensure the cuff is level with your heart.

Operating the Device

1. Taking a Measurement

Once the cuff is correctly attached and your user profile is selected, you are ready to take a measurement.

  1. Adopt a comfortable, relaxed posture, either sitting or lying down.
  2. Press the Start/Stop button (power button). All display elements will briefly illuminate.
  3. The cuff will automatically inflate, and the measurement will begin. Remain still and do not speak during the measurement.
  4. Once the measurement is complete, the systolic pressure (SYS), diastolic pressure (DIA), and pulse rate (PUL) will be displayed on the XL backlit screen.

2. Understanding the Display and Risk Indicator

The large LCD display provides clear readings. The risk indicator on the left side of the display categorizes your results using a color scale based on WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines.

3. Irregular Heartbeat Detection

The device features an irregular heartbeat detector. If an irregular pulse is detected during measurement, a flashing heart symbol will appear on the display. If this symbol appears frequently, consult your doctor.

Memory Management

1. Displaying Measurement Values

To view stored measurements for the selected user:

  1. With the device off, press the 'M' (Memory) button.
  2. The average value of all stored measurements will appear first.
  3. Repeatedly pressing the 'M' button will cycle through average values for morning and evening measurements, followed by individual stored values.

2. Deleting Measurement Values

To delete all stored measurements for the currently selected user:

  1. While viewing the stored measurements (after pressing 'M'), press and hold the 'M' button for approximately 3 seconds.
  2. The display will show '---' or similar, indicating that the values have been deleted.
