DYNAUDIO EMIT 10

DYNAUDIO Emit M10 Bookshelf Speaker Instruction Manual

Model: EMIT 10

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the DYNAUDIO Emit M10 Bookshelf Speakers. The M10 is the most compact model in the Emit range, designed to provide high-end audio performance. These speakers feature a 28 mm soft dome tweeter and a 14 cm MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) mid/bass driver, coupled with a 1st order crossover. The Emit M10 is engineered for easy integration with various amplifiers, offering a 6 ohm impedance and an expertly tuned bass-reflex cabinet for impressive low-frequency response.

This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your new speakers to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Setup

Speaker Placement

Proper speaker placement is crucial for optimal sound quality. Consider the following guidelines:

  • Distance from Walls: Bookshelf speakers generally benefit from being placed a short distance from the rear wall to allow the bass-reflex port to function correctly and prevent excessive bass. Experiment with distances from 6 inches to 2 feet (15-60 cm).
  • Height: Position the speakers so that the tweeters are approximately at ear level when you are seated in your primary listening position. This often means placing them on dedicated speaker stands or sturdy shelves.
  • Stereo Triangle: For a stereo setup, place the speakers and your listening position to form an equilateral triangle. The distance between the speakers should be roughly equal to the distance from each speaker to your listening position.
  • Toe-in: Experiment with angling the speakers slightly inward towards your listening position (toe-in). This can improve imaging and soundstage focus.

Connecting to an Amplifier

The DYNAUDIO Emit M10 speakers are passive speakers and require an external amplifier for operation. Follow these steps to connect your speakers:

  1. Power Off: Ensure your amplifier is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet before making any connections.
  2. Speaker Cables: Use high-quality speaker cables. Strip approximately 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) of insulation from the ends of the speaker wires. Twist the bare strands tightly.
  3. Polarity: It is critical to connect the speakers with correct polarity. Connect the positive (+) terminal (red) on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal (red) on your amplifier. Similarly, connect the negative (-) terminal (black) on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal (black) on your amplifier. Incorrect polarity will result in poor sound quality, particularly in bass response.
  4. Secure Connections: Unscrew the binding posts on the back of the speaker and amplifier, insert the bare wire or banana plug, and tighten securely. Ensure no stray wire strands are touching other terminals, which could cause a short circuit.

Operating Your Speakers

Once your speakers are properly connected to an amplifier, you can begin enjoying your audio system.

  • Power On: Plug in and turn on your amplifier.
  • Volume Control: Start with the amplifier's volume control at its lowest setting and gradually increase it to a comfortable listening level.
  • Break-in Period: Like many high-fidelity audio components, your speakers may benefit from a "break-in" period. This typically involves 50-100 hours of normal use, during which the drivers will loosen up and the sound quality may improve further.
  • Grills: The included grills protect the speaker drivers. You may choose to use them or remove them for a slightly different aesthetic and potentially a subtle change in sound, though the acoustic impact is generally minimal.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your DYNAUDIO Emit M10 speakers, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Dust the speaker cabinets regularly with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For stubborn marks, lightly dampen the cloth with water, but avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Grills: The speaker grills can be gently cleaned with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat: Do not expose the speakers to direct sunlight for extended periods or place them near heat sources, as this can cause discoloration or damage to the cabinet and drivers.
  • Moisture: Keep the speakers away from excessive moisture or humidity.
  • Driver Protection: Avoid touching the speaker drivers (tweeter and woofer) directly, as this can cause damage.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your speakers, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Sound:
    • Ensure the amplifier is powered on and connected correctly.
    • Check all speaker cable connections at both the amplifier and the speakers for secure contact and correct polarity.
    • Verify the correct input source is selected on your amplifier.
    • Confirm the volume is turned up on the amplifier.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the volume level on your amplifier. Overdriving the speakers can cause distortion.
    • Check speaker cable connections for any loose strands or short circuits.
    • Ensure the amplifier's power output is suitable for the speakers (refer to specifications).
    • Check the audio source for distortion.
  • Weak Bass:
    • Verify correct speaker polarity (+ to + and - to -) for both speakers. Incorrect polarity will cause bass cancellation.
    • Experiment with speaker placement, moving them closer to a wall can sometimes increase bass response.
  • Uneven Soundstage / Imaging Issues:
    • Ensure speakers are placed symmetrically and at equal distances from the listening position.
    • Adjust speaker toe-in.

If the problem persists, consult your retailer or qualified service personnel.
