2. General Safety Instructions

4. Setup

4.1 Attaching the Auxiliary Handle

The auxiliary handle provides better control and stability during operation. Loosen the handle by twisting it counter-clockwise, slide it over the drill chuck, and then tighten it clockwise in the desired position.

4.2 Inserting and Changing Drill Bits

  1. Ensure the drill is unplugged from the power source.
  2. Open the drill chuck jaws by turning the chuck key counter-clockwise.
  3. Insert the drill bit fully into the chuck.
  4. Tighten the chuck jaws firmly by turning the chuck key clockwise. Ensure the bit is centered and secure.
  5. Remove the chuck key immediately after tightening to prevent injury during operation.

4.3 Setting the Depth Gauge

The depth gauge allows for precise drilling depth. Insert the depth gauge into the auxiliary handle. Adjust its position so that the desired drilling depth is achieved when the tip of the drill bit touches the workpiece and the end of the depth gauge touches the surface.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

  • To switch on the tool, press the On/Off switch.
  • To switch off the tool, release the On/Off switch.

5.2 Speed Selection

The drill features electronic speed control. The drilling speed can be adjusted by varying the pressure on the On/Off switch. For continuous operation, press the On/Off switch and then press the lock-on button.

5.3 Forward/Reverse Rotation

The direction of rotation can be changed using the forward/reverse switch. This is useful for driving screws or removing jammed drill bits. Ensure the tool is stationary before changing the direction of rotation.

5.4 Drilling in Wood and Metal

The Bosch GBM 13 RE is suitable for drilling in wood and metal. Select the appropriate drill bit for the material and desired hole size. Apply steady, even pressure during drilling.

5.5 Continuous Drilling (Lock-on Button)

For extended drilling tasks, the lock-on button allows the tool to operate continuously without holding down the On/Off switch. To engage, press the On/Off switch and then press the lock-on button. To disengage, press the On/Off switch again.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your tool.

  • Cleaning: Keep the ventilation openings clean to prevent overheating. Regularly clean the tool housing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Carbon Brushes: The carbon brushes are designed to wear down over time. If the motor sparks excessively or the tool stops working, the carbon brushes may need replacement. This should be done by a qualified service technician.
  • Storage: Store the tool in a dry, secure place out of reach of children.
