Setup and First Use

1. Unpacking:

  • Carefully remove all packaging materials and labels from the espresso maker.
  • Ensure all parts are present: main unit, glass carafe, portafilter, filter basket, and steam wand nozzle.

2. Initial Cleaning:

  • Wash the glass carafe, portafilter, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.

3. Priming the Machine (First Use):

  1. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the '4-cup' mark.
  2. Place the empty glass carafe on the drip tray.
  3. Insert the portafilter (without coffee) into the brewing head and lock it into place.
  4. Plug the machine into a 220-240V electrical outlet.
  5. Turn the control dial to the 'Brew' position. Allow water to flow through the system into the carafe.
  6. Once the water has passed through, turn the dial to 'Off' and unplug the machine. Discard the water.
  7. This process cleans the internal components and prepares the machine for brewing.

Operating Instructions

Making Espresso:

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Ensure the water reservoir is filled with fresh, cold water to the desired level (e.g., 2 or 4 cups).
  2. Add Ground Coffee: Place the filter basket into the portafilter. Add finely ground espresso coffee to the filter basket. Do not overfill. Tamp the coffee lightly and evenly.
  3. Attach Portafilter: Securely attach the portafilter to the brewing head by aligning it and twisting firmly to the right until locked.
  4. Position Carafe: Place the glass carafe with its lid on the drip tray, directly under the portafilter spout.
  5. Brew Espresso: Plug in the machine and turn the control dial to the 'Brew' position. The indicator light will illuminate. Hot water will begin to flow through the coffee into the carafe.
  6. Monitor Brewing: Observe the temperature gauge. Brewing is typically complete when the desired amount of espresso is in the carafe or when the flow slows significantly.
  7. Stop Brewing: Turn the control dial to the 'Off' position. Carefully remove the carafe.
  8. Release Pressure: Before removing the portafilter, allow the machine to cool slightly or carefully release any remaining steam pressure by briefly turning the dial to the steam function (if applicable) or waiting a few minutes.
  9. Remove Portafilter: Carefully twist the portafilter to the left to remove it. Discard used coffee grounds.

Frothing Milk for Cappuccino/Latte:

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a metal frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
  2. Heat Machine: After brewing espresso, or if starting fresh, ensure the machine is heated and ready for steam production. The temperature gauge should indicate it's in the steam range.
  3. Position Steam Wand: Submerge the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk.
  4. Activate Steam: Turn the control dial to the 'Steam' position. Steam will begin to release from the wand.
  5. Froth Milk: Keep the steam wand tip just below the surface, moving the pitcher slightly up and down to incorporate air and create foam. As the milk heats and froths, lower the pitcher to keep the tip submerged.
  6. Stop Steaming: Once the milk reaches the desired temperature and froth consistency, turn the control dial to 'Off'.
  7. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying. Briefly activate steam again to clear any internal blockages.
  8. Combine: Pour the frothed milk over your freshly brewed espresso.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso maker.

Daily Cleaning:

  • Portafilter and Filter Basket: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under warm water.
  • Glass Carafe: Wash the glass carafe with warm, soapy water after each use.
  • Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Briefly open the steam valve to clear any milk residue from the nozzle.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray regularly.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.

Descaling:

Mineral deposits from water can build up over time, affecting performance. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions, or use a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio).
  2. Fill the water reservoir with the descaling solution.
  3. Place the empty carafe under the portafilter.
  4. Turn the machine on and run half of the solution through the brew cycle.
  5. Turn the machine off and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Turn the machine back on and run the remaining solution through the brew cycle.
  7. Empty the reservoir and rinse it thoroughly.
  8. Fill the reservoir with fresh water and run two full cycles to rinse out any descaling solution residue.

Note: The glass carafe and other removable parts are NOT dishwasher safe.
