Maclean MCE84 Contactless Door Opening Switch Instruction Manual

Model: MCE84

1. Product Overview

The Maclean MCE84 is a compact, contactless infrared motion detector designed to automate the control of electrical devices, such as lighting, based on door movement. This switch provides a hygienic and convenient solution for various applications.

When a door is opened to approximately 5-6 cm from the sensor, the connected device will activate (turn on). Conversely, when the door is closed, the device will automatically deactivate (turn off). This functionality makes it ideal for use in areas like bathrooms, closets, basements, and garages, where hands-free operation is beneficial.

5. Setup and Installation

Important: Ensure power is disconnected before starting installation. If you are unsure about electrical wiring, consult a qualified electrician.

5.1 Mounting the Switch Unit

  1. Choose a suitable location for the main switch unit, typically inside a cabinet, wall box, or other concealed area, ensuring it is protected from moisture and direct impact.
  2. Use appropriate screws and anchors (not always included) to securely mount the switch unit.

5.2 Installing the Infrared Sensor

  1. The small infrared sensor should be positioned near the edge of the door or cabinet opening.
  2. For optimal detection, place the sensor so that the door's edge passes approximately 5-6 cm in front of it when opening or closing.
  3. Ensure the sensor is not obstructed by other objects or surfaces that could interfere with its detection range.

5.3 Wiring Instructions

Refer to the wiring diagram on the device (Image 2) and the following instructions:

  • Input (Power Supply):
    • Connect the Live (L) wire from your 220-240V/AC power supply to the 'L' terminal on the switch.
    • Connect the Neutral (N) wire from your 220-240V/AC power supply to the 'N' terminal on the switch.
  • Output (Load Connection):
    • Connect the Live (L) wire of the device you wish to control (e.g., light fixture) to the 'L' with a lightbulb symbol terminal on the switch.
    • Connect the Neutral (N) wire of the device you wish to control to the 'N' with a lightbulb symbol terminal on the switch.
  • Sensor Connection: The infrared sensor is pre-wired to the main unit. Ensure its cable is routed safely and not pinched.

After all connections are made, carefully secure all wiring and ensure no bare wires are exposed. Restore power to the circuit.

6. Operating Instructions

The Maclean MCE84 operates automatically once correctly installed and powered.

  • Activation: When the door or cabinet to which the sensor is aligned is opened, and its edge moves within the 5-6 cm detection range of the infrared sensor, the connected electrical device will turn on.
  • Deactivation: When the door or cabinet is closed, moving its edge out of the detection range, the connected electrical device will turn off.

The switch is designed for simple, intuitive operation without manual intervention.

7. Maintenance

The Maclean MCE84 contactless switch requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the sensor lens and the main unit with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Inspection: Regularly check for any visible damage to the unit or wiring. If damage is found, disconnect power immediately and have the device inspected by a qualified technician.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: The device contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open or repair the unit yourself.
