2.2. Loading Nails
This nailer uses 16 gauge angled finish nails. Always ensure the battery is removed before loading nails.
- Pull back the pusher assembly until it locks into the open position.
- Insert a strip of 16 gauge angled finish nails into the magazine with the nail points facing down.
- Release the pusher assembly, allowing it to push the nails forward until they are seated against the nosepiece.

2.3. Adjusting Depth
The tool-free depth adjustment allows for precise countersinking of nails. Rotate the depth adjustment wheel located near the nosepiece to achieve the desired nail depth.
- Turn the wheel clockwise to increase nail depth (drive deeper).
- Turn the wheel counter-clockwise to decrease nail depth (drive shallower).
2.4. Selecting Actuation Mode
The DCN660B features a tool-free selectable trigger for two actuation modes:
- Sequential Actuation Mode: For precise placement. The trigger must be pulled for each fastener.
- Contact Actuation Mode: For rapid fastening. The trigger can be held, and fasteners are driven by contacting the nosepiece with the workpiece.
Use the selector switch on the side of the tool to choose the desired mode.
3. Operation
3.1. Basic Nailing Procedure
- Ensure the battery is installed and nails are loaded.
- Select the appropriate actuation mode (Sequential or Contact).
- Place the nosepiece firmly against the workpiece where the nail is to be driven.
- Pull the trigger to drive the nail. For sequential mode, release the trigger and lift the tool before moving to the next fastening point. For contact mode, keep the trigger pulled and move the tool to the next point, pressing the nosepiece against the surface.
- Observe the nail depth and adjust as necessary.
3.2. Clearing Nail Jams
In the event of a nail jam, follow these steps:
- Remove the battery pack immediately.
- Open the tool-free jam release latch located near the nosepiece.
- Carefully remove any jammed nails or debris using pliers if necessary.
- Close the jam release latch securely.
- Reinstall the battery pack and resume operation.
3.3. LED Indicators
The multi-functional LED lights provide both workspace illumination and tool diagnostics:
- Solid Green: Tool is ready for operation.
- Flashing Green: Battery is low.
- Solid Red: Tool is jammed or stalled. Refer to clearing jams or stall release.
- Flashing Red: Tool is overheating. Allow the tool to cool down.
An integrated tool-free stall release lever is available to quickly reset the driver blade in the event of a stall.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your tool. Always remove the battery pack before performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning: Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down the tool. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals. Keep the ventilation openings clear of dust and debris.
- Magazine Inspection: Periodically inspect the nail magazine for any build-up of debris or damage that could impede nail feeding.
- Nosepiece Inspection: Check the nosepiece for wear or damage. A worn nosepiece can affect nail placement and depth.
- Storage: Store the tool in a dry, secure location out of reach of children. Remove the battery pack before storage.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Tool does not fire. | Battery not installed or discharged; no nails in magazine; nosepiece not fully depressed; actuation mode incorrect. | Check battery charge and installation; load nails; ensure nosepiece is firmly against workpiece; verify actuation mode setting. |
| Nails jam frequently. | Incorrect nail size/type; damaged nails; debris in magazine; worn nosepiece. | Use only specified 16GA angled finish nails; inspect nails for damage; clear magazine debris; inspect/replace nosepiece if worn. |
| Nails not driven to desired depth. | Depth adjustment incorrect; low battery charge; insufficient pressure on nosepiece. | Adjust depth setting; charge battery; apply firm, consistent pressure to the nosepiece. |
| LED indicator shows red. | Tool jammed or stalled; tool overheating. | Clear any jams using the jam release; use the stall release lever; allow tool to cool if overheating. |
