1. Introduction

The Gigaset A400H is a supplementary cordless DECT handset designed to extend your existing Gigaset A400 or A400A telephone system. This handset does not include a charging station or base unit and is intended for replacement or expansion purposes only. It must be registered to a compatible Gigaset DECT base station (A400 or A400A) to function.

2. Package Contents

3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the handset.
  2. Slide the battery cover downwards and remove it.
  3. Insert the two supplied rechargeable AAA NiMH batteries according to the polarity markings (+/-) inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery cover by sliding it upwards until it clicks into place.

3.2. Initial Charging

Before first use, charge the handset for approximately 8-10 hours. Place the handset into a compatible Gigaset A400H charging cradle or directly onto the Gigaset A400/A400A base station. The display will indicate charging status.

3.3. Registering the Handset to a Base Station

The Gigaset A400H handset must be registered to a Gigaset A400 or A400A base station to function. Follow these steps:

  1. On the Handset: Press the Menu key, navigate to Settings, then Registration, and select Register Handset.
  2. The handset display will show "Searching for base" or "Registering".
  3. On the Base Station (A400/A400A): Within 60 seconds of initiating registration on the handset, press and hold the registration/paging button on the base station for approximately 3-5 seconds.
  4. Once registered, the handset will display its internal number (e.g., "HS 2") and the signal strength icon.
  5. If registration fails, repeat the process. Refer to your base station's manual for specific registration details if needed.

4. Operating the Handset

After successful registration, your Gigaset A400H handset is ready for use. Basic operations include:

  • Making Calls: Enter the phone number and press the green call key.
  • Receiving Calls: Press the green call key when the phone rings.
  • Ending Calls: Press the red end call key.
  • Menu Navigation: Use the navigation keys (up/down/left/right) to browse through the handset's menu options. Press the Menu key to access the main menu.
  • Volume Adjustment: Adjust the earpiece or ringer volume using the navigation keys during a call or in standby mode.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the handset with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Batteries: Use only the recommended rechargeable NiMH batteries. Do not use alkaline or non-rechargeable batteries. Replace batteries when their performance significantly degrades.
  • Environment: Keep the handset away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and moisture.

6. Troubleshooting
