5. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps for proper installation of the RACO 2192 Squeeze Connector:

  1. Prepare the Conduit/Cable: Cut the flexible metal conduit or armored cable to the desired length. Ensure the ends are clean and free of burrs. If using armored cable, remove the outer armor to expose the conductors and any anti-short bushing, if required by code.
  2. Insert Conduit into Connector: Loosen the squeeze screw on the connector. Insert the prepared end of the flexible metal conduit or armored cable into the connector's opening. Ensure the conduit is fully seated against the internal stop of the connector.
  3. Secure the Conduit: Tighten the squeeze screw firmly with a screwdriver. The screw will compress the connector around the conduit, providing a secure mechanical connection. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the conduit or the connector.
  4. Attach Connector to Enclosure: Insert the threaded end of the squeeze connector through the appropriate 1/2-inch knockout or opening in the electrical box or enclosure.
  5. Secure to Enclosure: Thread the locknut onto the connector from inside the electrical box. Tighten the locknut securely using channel locks or a wrench to ensure a rigid connection between the connector and the box.
  6. Verify Connection: Gently tug on the conduit to ensure it is firmly held by the connector and that the connector is securely fastened to the electrical box.

6. Maintenance

The RACO 2192 Squeeze Connector is designed for long-term reliability with minimal maintenance. However, periodic inspection is recommended:

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically check for any signs of corrosion, physical damage, or loosening of the squeeze screw or locknut.
  • Tightness Check: If accessible and safe to do so (with power off), verify that the squeeze screw and locknut remain tight. Retighten if necessary.
  • Cleaning: If dust or debris accumulates, gently clean the exterior of the connector with a dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals.

7. Troubleshooting

Most issues related to squeeze connectors are installation-related:

  • Conduit is Loose: Ensure the squeeze screw is fully tightened. If the conduit is still loose, verify that the correct size connector was used for the conduit diameter.
  • Connector is Loose in Box: Ensure the locknut is fully tightened against the electrical box.
  • Difficulty Inserting Conduit: Check for burrs on the conduit end. Ensure the squeeze screw is sufficiently loosened before insertion.

If problems persist, consult a qualified electrician.
