APOLLO APXV3434 3/4 Inch PEX Brass Ball Valve User Manual

Model: APXV3434 | Brand: APOLLO

1. Introduction

The APOLLO APXV3434 is a 3/4 inch PEX Brass Ball Valve designed for reliable flow control in plumbing systems. This quarter-turn valve is suitable for both new construction and remodeling projects, offering quick and secure connections without the need for flames, glues, fluxes, or solvents.

Key Features:

  • 3/4 inch diameter for standard PEX pipe applications.
  • Designed for use with Apollo PEX pipe.
  • Provides quick and mess-free connections.
  • Brass body construction for durability.
  • NSF Approved and meets ASTM F1807 standards.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, personal injury, or death.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves, during installation.
  • Ensure the water supply is turned off and the system is depressurized before beginning any installation or maintenance.
  • This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm (California Proposition 65 Warning). Wash hands after handling.
  • Do not use this valve for applications exceeding its specified temperature and pressure ratings (32 - 180°F).

3. Setup and Installation

This valve is designed for crimp-style PEX connections. Ensure you have the correct PEX crimping tools and PEX pipe for a secure installation.

3.1. Preparation

  1. Turn off the main water supply to the area where the valve will be installed.
  2. Drain the water from the pipes to relieve pressure.
  3. Gather all necessary tools: PEX pipe cutter, PEX crimping tool, PEX crimp rings, and Apollo PEX pipe.
  4. Inspect the valve for any visible damage before installation.

3.2. Installation Steps

  1. Cut the PEX pipe to the desired length using a PEX pipe cutter, ensuring a clean, square cut.
  2. Slide a PEX crimp ring onto the PEX pipe.
  3. Insert the PEX pipe fully onto the valve's PEX barb fitting. Ensure the pipe is seated against the shoulder of the fitting.
  4. Position the crimp ring over the barb fitting, approximately 1/8 inch from the end of the pipe.
  5. Using the PEX crimping tool, crimp the ring firmly. Ensure the crimp is complete and secure according to the crimping tool manufacturer's instructions.
  6. Repeat the process for the other side of the valve.
  7. Once both connections are made, slowly turn on the water supply and check for leaks.

4. Operating Instructions

The APOLLO APXV3434 is a quarter-turn ball valve, meaning it requires only a 90-degree rotation of the handle to fully open or close the flow.

  • To Open the Valve: Rotate the handle so it is parallel with the direction of the pipe. This allows full flow through the valve.
  • To Close the Valve: Rotate the handle 90 degrees so it is perpendicular to the direction of the pipe. This stops the flow completely.

5. Maintenance

The APOLLO APXV3434 ball valve is designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation under normal conditions. However, periodic inspection is recommended.

  • Annual Inspection: Visually inspect the valve and connections for any signs of leaks, corrosion, or damage.
  • Operation Check: Periodically operate the valve (open and close it fully) to ensure smooth movement and prevent seizing, especially in systems that remain open or closed for extended periods.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, clean the exterior of the valve with a mild detergent and water. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

6. Troubleshooting

Most issues with ball valves are related to improper installation or extreme operating conditions.

  • Leakage at Connections: Ensure PEX crimp rings are properly seated and crimped. Re-crimp if necessary, or replace the crimp ring and re-crimp. Verify the PEX pipe is fully inserted onto the barb fitting.
  • Difficulty Turning Handle: If the valve handle is stiff, it may be due to mineral buildup or infrequent use. Operating the valve several times may free it. If it remains stiff or seizes, the valve may need replacement.
  • Reduced Flow: Check for obstructions in the pipe system upstream or downstream of the valve. Ensure the valve is fully open (handle parallel to the pipe).
