The Defiant SunSmart Digital Timer is designed to automate the control of electrical devices. It features two grounded outlets and offers advanced programming capabilities, including SunSmart technology for automatic sunset/sunrise adjustments and a random vacation security feature.

Setup

1. Initial Reset:

Before first use or after a prolonged power outage, it is recommended to reset the timer. Use a pointed object (like a paperclip) to press the RESET button located below the display. The display will clear, and the timer will return to its default settings.

2. Plug In:

Plug the timer into a standard 125V AC grounded wall outlet. The display will illuminate.

3. Set Current Time and Day:

  1. Press the SET button once. The hour will flash.
  2. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the hour (AM/PM will change automatically).
  3. Press SET again. The minutes will flash.
  4. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the minutes.
  5. Press SET again. The day of the week will flash.
  6. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select the current day.
  7. Press SET one last time to confirm and exit time setting mode.

The internal battery will maintain the time and programmed settings even if the timer is unplugged or power is interrupted.

Operating Instructions: Programming

The timer allows for up to 7 individual ON/OFF programs. Each program can be set for a specific day, a group of days, or all days of the week.

Setting ON/OFF Programs:

  1. Press the PROG button. "1 ON" will appear on the display, indicating the first ON program.
  2. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the desired ON hour.
  3. Press SET. The minutes will flash. Adjust minutes using UP or DOWN.
  4. Press SET. The day(s) of the week will flash. Use UP or DOWN to cycle through day options (e.g., MO, TU, WE, TH, FR, SA, SU, MO-FR, SA-SU, MO-SA, MO-SU). Select your desired day(s).
  5. Press PROG. "1 OFF" will appear. Repeat steps 2-4 to set the desired OFF time and day(s) for the first program.
  6. To set additional programs (up to 7), press PROG again after setting "1 OFF". The display will show "2 ON". Repeat the process for each program.
  7. Once all desired programs are set, press the ON/OFF button repeatedly until "AUTO" appears on the display. This activates the programmed schedule.

Note: If you make a mistake during programming, you can press RCL/RND to clear the current setting and re-enter it.

SunSmart Feature:

The SunSmart feature automatically adjusts ON/OFF times to coincide with local sunset and sunrise. To use this feature, select "SUNSET" or "SUNRISE" when setting the ON or OFF time during programming. The timer will automatically calculate and adjust these times throughout the year based on your initial setup.

Random Vacation Security Feature:

To activate the random security feature, press the RCL/RND button until "RND" appears on the display. When active, the timer will vary the programmed ON/OFF times by up to 30 minutes, creating a "lived-in" appearance for enhanced security when you are away. Press RCL/RND again to deactivate.

Reviewing Programs:

To review your programmed settings, repeatedly press the PROG button. The display will cycle through all ON and OFF programs (1 ON, 1 OFF, 2 ON, 2 OFF, etc.). Press ON/OFF to exit program review mode.

Modes of Operation

The timer has three operating modes, which can be cycled by pressing the ON/OFF button:

Maintenance

Cleaning:

To clean the timer, first unplug it from the wall outlet. Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as these may damage the unit.

Internal Battery:

The timer contains an internal, non-replaceable battery that retains time and program settings during power outages or when unplugged. This battery is designed for long-term use and does not require user maintenance or replacement.
