3. Safety Information
Your Nolan N44 Evo helmet is designed to provide significant protection. Always ensure the helmet fits correctly and is securely fastened before riding.
- This helmet complies with ECE-22-05 safety standards.
- Never modify your helmet. Any modifications can compromise its protective capabilities.
- In the event of an impact, even if there are no visible signs of damage, the helmet's protective capacity may be compromised. It is recommended to replace the helmet after any significant impact.
- Always use the retention system correctly. The Microlock 2 system should be adjusted snugly under your chin.
- Ensure the visor is clean and free from obstructions for clear vision.
4. Setup and Adjustment
4.1. Sizing and Fit
A proper fit is crucial for safety and comfort. Refer to the size chart below to determine the correct helmet size for your head circumference. The helmet should fit snugly without causing pressure points.

Figure 4.1: This chart provides head circumference measurements in centimeters and inches, corresponding to various helmet sizes (XXS to XXXL). To measure, place a tape measure approximately 1 inch (2 to 2.5 cm) above your eyebrows, around the widest part of your head.
4.2. Chin Guard Removal/Attachment
The N44 Evo features a lightweight removable chin guard, allowing conversion between full-face and jet configurations. Consult the specific instructions provided with your helmet for detailed steps on safely detaching and reattaching the chin guard. Ensure it is securely locked in place before riding.
4.3. Visor Quick Change System
The "Ultrawide" main visor can be changed quickly without the need for tools. To remove, open the visor fully and locate the release mechanisms on each side. Follow the specific instructions in your helmet's included guide for proper removal and installation to avoid damage.
4.4. N-Com Communication System Preparation
Your N44 Evo helmet is pre-configured for the Nolan N-Com communication system. This means the helmet has dedicated spaces for speakers and microphone, simplifying the installation of an N-Com unit (sold separately). Refer to the N-Com system's manual for installation instructions.
5. Operating Your Helmet
5.1. Main Visor Operation
The "Ultrawide" main visor can be opened and closed manually. It features multiple detent positions to allow for varying levels of airflow. Ensure the visor is fully closed when riding at speed or in adverse weather conditions.
5.2. VPS Sun Visor Operation
The integrated VPS (Vision Protection System) sun visor is operated by a slider mechanism, typically located on the left side of the helmet. Slide it down to deploy the sun visor for protection against glare, and slide it up to retract it. Do not use the sun visor in low light conditions or at night.
5.3. Airbooster Technology Ventilation
The helmet features an advanced ventilation system. Locate the air inlets on the top of the helmet and at the visor. These can typically be opened or closed using small levers or sliders to control airflow. Air outlets are located at the top and rear to facilitate air circulation and heat dissipation. Adjust these vents according to riding conditions for optimal comfort.
5.4. Microlock 2 Retention System
To fasten the helmet, insert the male end of the strap into the female buckle until you hear a click. To release, pull the red lever while simultaneously lifting the black lever. Always ensure the strap is snug under your chin, allowing only enough space for one finger between the strap and your chin.
6. Maintenance and Care
6.1. Cleaning the Helmet Shell
Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the polycarbonate material and protective coatings. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, clean cloth.
6.2. Visor Cleaning and Care
Clean the main visor and VPS sun visor with a soft cloth and lukewarm water. For stubborn dirt, use a specialized helmet visor cleaner. Do not use paper towels or abrasive materials, as they can scratch the visor. If equipped with a Pinlock® insert, remove it before cleaning the main visor and clean it separately with a soft, damp cloth, allowing it to air dry.
6.3. Inner Lining Care
The Clima Top Comfort inner padding and neck cushion are removable and washable. Hand wash them in lukewarm water with mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry completely before reinserting them into the helmet. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
6.4. Storage
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the premium helmet bag provided to protect it from dust and scratches.
7. Troubleshooting
- Visor Fogging: Ensure the Pinlock® insert (if installed) is properly seated and adjusted. Verify that the helmet's ventilation system is open to allow airflow.
- Uncomfortable Fit: Re-check the helmet size using the size chart. Ensure the inner padding is correctly positioned. If discomfort persists, the helmet size may be incorrect.
- Chin Guard Not Locking: Ensure the chin guard is correctly aligned with the helmet's locking mechanisms. Apply firm, even pressure until it clicks into place. Do not force it.
- Microlock 2 System Issues: Ensure no debris is obstructing the buckle mechanism. If the system does not fasten or release smoothly, inspect for damage. Do not use a damaged retention system.
