4.2. Installing/Removing Drill Bits or Driver Bits
The drill features a keyless chuck for quick bit changes.
- To open the chuck: Rotate the chuck collar counter-clockwise until the jaws are wide enough to insert the bit.
- Insert the bit: Fully insert the drill bit or driver bit into the chuck.
- To close the chuck: Rotate the chuck collar clockwise until the bit is securely clamped. Hand-tighten firmly.
- To remove the bit: Rotate the chuck collar counter-clockwise to loosen the jaws and pull the bit out.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Selecting Speed
The drill driver has two speed settings, controlled by the speed selector switch located on top of the tool.
- Speed 1 (Low): 0-350 RPM. Ideal for high-torque applications like driving screws or drilling large diameter holes in wood.
- Speed 2 (High): 0-1500 RPM. Suitable for fast drilling in metal or smaller diameter holes.
5.2. Adjusting Torque
The torque adjustment collar allows you to set the clutch to prevent over-driving screws or damaging the workpiece. There are multiple settings, plus a drill mode.
- Rotate the collar to select the desired torque setting. Start with a lower setting and increase if the screw is not driven fully.
- For drilling, set the collar to the drill symbol (usually indicated by a drill bit icon) to bypass the clutch and provide maximum torque.
5.3. Forward/Reverse Operation
The forward/reverse selector switch is located above the trigger.
- Push the switch to the left for forward rotation (clockwise, for drilling and driving screws).
- Push the switch to the right for reverse rotation (counter-clockwise, for removing screws or backing out bits).
- Center position locks the trigger, preventing accidental starting.
5.4. Drilling and Driving
- Drilling: Select the drill mode on the torque collar. Choose the appropriate speed. Apply steady, even pressure.
- Driving Screws: Select a torque setting. Use a suitable driver bit. Apply firm pressure to prevent cam-out.
- The variable speed trigger allows for precise control over the drilling/driving speed. Press lightly for slower speeds, and increase pressure for higher speeds.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your drill driver.
- Cleaning: Keep the ventilation openings clear and clean. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the tool. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Do not store fully discharged batteries for extended periods. Charge batteries regularly, even if not in use, to maintain their health.
- Chuck Maintenance: Periodically clean the chuck jaws to ensure proper gripping of bits.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the tool for any signs of damage, loose screws, or worn parts. Do not use a damaged tool.
