1. Product Overview

The Zone Offroad F5101 Shackle Lift is designed to provide a 1-inch lift to the rear of compatible vehicles, specifically the 1999-2004 Ford F250/F350 and 2000-2005 Ford Excursion. These extended shackles are engineered to help level your vehicle's stance while maintaining the factory ride quality. They are sold as a pair and include all necessary installation hardware.

This image displays two black metal shackle lift components, each consisting of a U-shaped bracket with two upright arms. A silver bolt passes through holes in the arms, secured by a gold-colored nut on one end. These components are designed to provide a 1-inch lift for compatible vehicles.

Key Features:

  • Provides approximately 1 inch of rear lift.
  • Designed for 1999-2004 Ford F250/F350 and 2000-2005 Ford Excursion.
  • Maintains factory ride quality.
  • Sold as a pair.
  • Constructed from durable metal.

2. Installation (Setup)

Safety First: Always ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands or a lift before beginning any work. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves. It is recommended that installation be performed by a qualified automotive technician.

Required Tools:

  • Socket/Wrench Set
  • Torque Wrench
  • Jack and Jack Stands (or vehicle lift)
  • Penetrating Oil (optional)

Installation Steps:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels.
  3. Safely lift the rear of the vehicle using a jack and support it securely with jack stands under the frame, allowing the rear axle to hang freely.
  4. Remove the rear wheels.
  5. Locate the factory leaf spring shackles at the rear of the leaf springs.
  6. Support the rear axle with a floor jack to relieve tension on the shackles.
  7. Carefully remove the bolts securing the factory shackles. You may need to use penetrating oil if bolts are seized.
  8. Remove the factory shackles.
  9. Install the new Zone Offroad F5101 shackles, ensuring proper orientation. The longer leg of the shackle typically faces towards the front of the vehicle.
  10. Insert the new bolts and hand-tighten the nuts. Do not fully tighten at this stage.
  11. Lower the vehicle slowly until the full weight is on the suspension. This allows the suspension to settle to its normal ride height.
  12. Torque all shackle bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque settings. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for exact values.
  13. Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to factory specifications.
  14. Remove jack stands and lower the vehicle completely.
  15. Important: After installation, it is highly recommended to have a professional alignment performed to ensure proper vehicle handling and tire wear.

3. Operation and Post-Installation Considerations

Once installed, the Zone Offroad F5101 Shackle Lift will provide a subtle 1-inch lift to the rear of your vehicle, helping to level its stance, especially if the front has been lifted or if the vehicle frequently carries heavy loads. The design aims to maintain the original ride quality.

Driving Considerations:

  • Alignment: As mentioned in the installation section, a professional alignment is crucial after any suspension modification to prevent uneven tire wear and maintain proper steering.
  • Handling: While designed to maintain factory ride, minor changes in handling characteristics may be noticed. Drive cautiously until you are accustomed to the vehicle's new feel.
  • Towing/Hauling: The shackle lift does not increase the vehicle's towing or hauling capacity. Always adhere to the vehicle manufacturer's recommended limits.

4. Maintenance

Regular inspection and maintenance of your suspension components are vital for safety and longevity.

Maintenance Schedule:

  • Initial Check (500 miles): After approximately 500 miles of driving, re-check the torque on all shackle bolts. Suspension components can settle, and bolts may loosen slightly.
  • Routine Inspection (Every Oil Change/6 Months):
    • Visually inspect the shackles for any signs of damage, corrosion, or wear.
    • Check all bolts and nuts for tightness. Re-torque if necessary.
    • Inspect surrounding suspension components (leaf springs, bushings, shocks) for any unusual wear or damage.
  • Cleaning: Keep the shackles and surrounding areas free from excessive dirt, mud, and road salt, especially in harsh environments. A simple rinse with water is usually sufficient.

5. Troubleshooting

While the F5101 Shackle Lift is a straightforward component, some issues may arise after installation or over time.
