2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Placement

Carefully remove the sewing machine and all accessories from the packaging. Place the machine on a stable, flat surface. Ensure adequate space for fabric movement and access to the power outlet.

2.2 Power Connection

Connect the power cord to the machine and then to a suitable electrical outlet. Connect the foot controller if you intend to use it for speed control.

2.3 Attaching the Extension Table

For larger projects, attach the extra-wide extension table. Align the table's connectors with the machine's free arm and slide it into place until secure. This provides an expanded work surface.

2.4 Bobbin Winding

  1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
  2. Guide the thread through the upper thread guide and around the bobbin winding tension disc.
  3. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle and push it to the right.
  4. Start the machine; the bobbin will wind automatically. Stop when the bobbin is full.
  5. Trim the thread and remove the wound bobbin.

2.5 Threading the Machine

The SINGER 8060 features quick and easy threading. Follow the numbered guides on the machine for upper thread path. The built-in automatic needle threader simplifies threading the needle's eye.

  1. Ensure the needle is in its highest position.
  2. Lower the presser foot.
  3. Pull the threader lever down completely.
  4. Guide the thread through the hook and release the lever slowly. The thread will be pulled through the needle eye.

2.6 Inserting the Bobbin

Open the bobbin cover plate. Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction as indicated by the machine markings. Guide the thread through the tension spring and close the cover.

3. Operation

3.1 Stitch Selection and Adjustment

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Machine

Regularly clean lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs using the provided lint brush. Turn off and unplug the machine before cleaning. Do not use compressed air, as it can push debris further into the machine.

4.2 Needle Replacement

Replace the needle frequently, especially after 8-10 hours of sewing or when working with new fabric types. A dull or bent needle can cause skipped stitches or fabric damage. Use SINGER brand needles appropriate for your fabric.

4.3 Lubrication

The SINGER 8060 is a self-lubricating machine and does not require user oiling. Refer to a qualified service technician for any internal lubrication needs.

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter. For more complex problems, consult the full instruction manual or contact customer support.

  • Skipped Stitches: Ensure the needle is inserted correctly, not bent, and is the appropriate type for your fabric. Re-thread the machine completely, both upper and bobbin threads.
  • Thread Breaking: Check for correct threading, proper tension settings, and ensure the needle is not dull or bent. Use quality thread.
  • Fabric Puckering: Adjust stitch length and tension. Ensure you are using the correct presser foot and needle for the fabric.
  • Machine Not Starting: Verify the power cord is securely plugged in and the foot controller (if used) is connected. Check if the bobbin winder spindle is pushed to the left (sewing position).
