LEFOO Pressure Switch Control Instruction Manual

Model: LF10A-1H2

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the LEFOO LF10A-1H2 Pressure Switch Control. This heavy-duty pressure switch is designed for air compressor applications, featuring a single port and a 26 Amp rating, suitable for both single-phase and three-phase systems (110/230V). It is UL Listed and CSA Certified, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the equipment:

  • Electrical Hazard: Disconnect all power to the air compressor before installing, servicing, or performing any maintenance on the pressure switch. Failure to do so can result in severe electrical shock or death.
  • Pressure Hazard: Ensure the air compressor system is fully depressurized before working on the pressure switch. Compressed air can cause serious injury.
  • Qualified Personnel: Installation and maintenance should only be performed by qualified personnel familiar with electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Proper Wiring: Adhere to all local and national electrical codes. Use appropriate wire gauges and ensure all connections are secure.
  • Environmental Conditions: Do not expose the pressure switch to excessive moisture, dust, or corrosive environments beyond its specified operating range (-22° to 257°F).

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the pressure switch:

  1. Power Disconnection: Ensure the air compressor is completely disconnected from its power source and the air tank is fully depressurized.
  2. Mounting: Securely mount the pressure switch in an appropriate location on the air compressor system. Ensure it is protected from physical damage and excessive vibration.
  3. Pressure Connection: Connect the 1/4" NPT (Female) port of the pressure switch to the air compressor's pressure line. Use thread sealant tape or compound to ensure an airtight seal.
  4. Unloader Connection: Connect the 1/4" compression unloader line from the pressure switch to the unloader valve on the compressor pump. This line releases air pressure from the compressor head when the motor stops, allowing for easier restarts.
  5. Electrical Wiring:

Figure 4.1: Internal view of the pressure switch showing wiring terminals and specifications label.

Refer to the internal wiring diagram (Figure 4.1) and the specifications label on the switch. Connect the power supply wires to the appropriate terminals (LINE) and the compressor motor wires to the motor terminals (MOTOR). This is a DPST switch, meaning it has two independent sets of contacts that open and close simultaneously. Ensure correct voltage (110V or 230V) and phase (single or three-phase) connections as per your compressor's requirements. All connections must be tight and secure.

  6. Verify Connections: Double-check all mechanical and electrical connections before restoring power.

5. Operating Instructions

The LEFOO Pressure Switch operates automatically to maintain the desired air pressure within your compressor tank.

  • Automatic Operation: The switch is factory preset to turn the compressor motor ON when the tank pressure drops to 95 PSI and turn it OFF when the pressure reaches 125 PSI. This automatic cycle ensures a consistent supply of compressed air.
  • Manual On/Off Lever: The pressure switch is equipped with a manual Auto/Off lever.
    • Set the lever to "Auto" for automatic pressure control.
    • Set the lever to "Off" to manually stop the compressor and prevent it from cycling. Always use this lever to turn off the compressor before performing any maintenance or leaving it unattended.
  • Pressure Adjustment (Advanced): While factory set, some models may allow for minor adjustments to the cut-in and cut-out pressure settings. This typically involves adjusting internal screws. Refer to the specific markings on your switch (e.g., "CUT-IN" and "CUT-OUT" adjustment screws as seen in Figure 4.1).
    • Caution: Adjusting pressure settings should only be done by experienced individuals. Incorrect adjustments can lead to compressor damage or unsafe operation. Always monitor pressure with an external gauge after adjustment.
    • One screw may adjust both cut-in and cut-off simultaneously, while another may adjust only the cut-off pressure. Make small adjustments and test the system.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your pressure switch.

  • Periodic Inspection: Regularly inspect the pressure switch for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Check electrical connections for tightness and ensure no wires are frayed or exposed.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the switch clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture. A build-up of debris can affect its performance. Use a dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Pressure Port: Ensure the pressure port remains clear and unobstructed.
  • Unloader Line: Verify that the unloader line is not kinked or blocked, as this can prevent the compressor from restarting easily.
  • Avoid Over-tightening: When re-tightening connections, avoid over-tightening, which can strip threads or damage components.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your LEFOO Pressure Switch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Compressor does not turn on.
  • No power to the switch.
  • Manual lever in "Off" position.
  • Faulty wiring connection.
  • Pressure already above cut-in setting.
  • Internal switch failure.
  • Check power supply and circuit breaker.
  • Move lever to "Auto".
  • Inspect and secure all electrical connections.
  • Check tank pressure with a gauge.
  • Replace the pressure switch.
Compressor does not turn off.
  • Pressure not reaching cut-off setting.
  • Internal switch contacts stuck.
  • Pressure gauge inaccurate.
  • Check for air leaks in the system.
  • Replace the pressure switch.
  • Verify pressure with a calibrated gauge.
Compressor cycles too frequently.
  • Air leak in the system.
  • Small pressure differential.
  • Locate and repair air leaks.
  • Adjust pressure differential if possible (advanced).
