IK Multimedia iRig Mic Lav Lapel Microphone Instruction Manual

Introduction

The IK Multimedia iRig Mic Lav is a compact, omnidirectional condenser lavalier microphone designed for mobile devices. It provides convenient, crisp, high-quality audio directly to your smartphone or tablet. This microphone is compatible with both iOS and Android devices (an adapter may be required for select Android devices) and features a 1/8" TRRS jack for connection. Its unique design allows for headphone monitoring and daisy-chaining of a second iRig Mic Lav for dual microphone setups.

Key Features

Setup

  1. Connect the Microphone: Plug the 1/8" TRRS jack of the iRig Mic Lav directly into the headphone/microphone jack of your smartphone, tablet, or compatible device. For devices without a 3.5mm jack, an appropriate adapter (e.g., Lightning to 3.5mm for newer iPhones, USB-C to 3.5mm for some Android devices) will be required.
  2. Secure the Microphone: Attach the durable mounting clip to the microphone and then clip the microphone to your clothing, ideally about 6-8 inches from your mouth, for optimal sound capture.
  3. Attach Pop Filter (Optional): For outdoor use or to reduce plosive sounds (like 'p' and 'b' sounds), gently place the included foam pop filter over the microphone capsule.
  4. Headphone Monitoring (Optional): To monitor your audio in real-time, connect headphones to the 1/8" TRRS port on the in-line connector of the iRig Mic Lav. Note that real-time monitoring requires a compatible recording application with pass-through monitoring enabled. The microphone's in-line connector does not provide direct hardware monitoring.
  5. Daisy-Chaining (Optional): To connect a second iRig Mic Lav, plug its 1/8" TRRS jack into the 1/8" TRRS port on the in-line connector of the first iRig Mic Lav. This allows for a dual microphone setup.

Operation

The iRig Mic Lav is designed for simple plug-and-play operation. Once connected to your device, it acts as an audio input. The omnidirectional condenser capsule captures sound from all directions, making it suitable for interviews, presentations, and general recording.
