2. Important Safety Information
WARNING: Risk of explosive gases. Working in the vicinity of a lead-acid battery is dangerous. Batteries generate explosive gases during normal operation. Always ensure proper ventilation and wear eye protection.
- Always operate the charger in a well-ventilated area.
- Never smoke or allow a spark or flame in the vicinity of the battery or engine.
- Ensure the charger is disconnected from the AC power supply before making or breaking connections to the battery.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection and gloves.
- Avoid touching uninsulated metal parts of the charger or battery clamps when the unit is powered.
- This charger is designed for lead-acid batteries only. Do not use it for charging dry-cell batteries that are commonly used with home appliances.
- Keep out of reach of children.

5. Setup Instructions
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the charger from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage during transit. If damage is found, do not operate the unit and contact customer support.
- Placement: Position the charger on a stable, level surface in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, rain, or excessive moisture. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for proper airflow to the cooling fan.
- Power Source: Ensure the AC power outlet matches the input voltage requirements of the charger (240 Volts as per specifications). Do not use extension cords unless absolutely necessary, and if used, ensure it is a heavy-duty, grounded cord suitable for the charger's power requirements.
- Battery Preparation:
- Clean battery terminals of any corrosion.
- If the battery has removable cell caps, check the electrolyte level and add distilled water if necessary, ensuring the plates are covered. Do not overfill.
- Ensure the battery is in a well-ventilated area.
6. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps carefully to charge a battery:
- Select Voltage: On the charger's control panel, set the voltage selector switch to match the battery's voltage (6V, 12V, or 24V).
- Connect to Battery:
- Connect the RED (+) positive clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
- Connect the BLACK (-) negative clamp to the negative (-) terminal of the battery.
- For vehicle batteries, connect the BLACK (-) negative clamp to the vehicle chassis or engine block, away from the battery and fuel line.
- The patented Stop/Go-light technology will indicate if an incorrect polarity connection has been made. Correct the connection before proceeding.
- Connect to AC Power: Plug the charger's AC power cord into a grounded 240-volt electrical outlet.
- Set Charging Position: Select one of the four available charging positions based on the desired charge rate and battery condition. Refer to the charger's front panel for specific amp ratings for each position (e.g., 60-60-30 Amp Charge).
- Set Timer: Turn the 120-minute automatic timer knob to the desired charging duration. The charger will automatically shut off once the timer expires. For continuous charging, set the timer to the "HOLD" position if available, or monitor the battery closely.
- Monitor Charging: Observe the ammeter on the charger's front panel. The needle will gradually drop as the battery charges.
- Disconnect: Once charging is complete (timer expires or ammeter reads near zero), first unplug the charger from the AC outlet. Then, disconnect the BLACK (-) negative clamp, followed by the RED (+) positive clamp.
6.1 Cranking Assist Function
The Associated 6010B also features a 230 Amp Cranking Assist function for starting vehicles with a discharged battery.
- Ensure the charger is disconnected from AC power.
- Connect the RED (+) positive clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the vehicle battery.
- Connect the BLACK (-) negative clamp to a clean, unpainted metal part of the vehicle chassis or engine block, away from the battery and fuel lines.
- Plug the charger's AC power cord into a grounded 240-volt electrical outlet.
- Select the "CRANKING ASSIST" setting on the charger.
- Attempt to start the vehicle. If the vehicle does not start after 5-10 seconds, wait for 1-2 minutes before trying again to allow the charger to cool. Do not crank for extended periods.
- Once the vehicle starts, immediately unplug the charger from the AC outlet, then disconnect the BLACK (-) negative clamp, followed by the RED (+) positive clamp.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from all power sources before cleaning. Wipe the exterior of the charger with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the AC power cord and charging cables for any cuts, fraying, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
- Ventilation: Ensure the cooling fan and ventilation openings are free from dust and debris to maintain proper airflow and prevent overheating.
- Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Coil the cables neatly to prevent tangling and damage.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Charger does not turn on. | No AC power; faulty outlet; damaged power cord. | Check AC outlet with another appliance. Inspect power cord for damage. Ensure charger is plugged in securely. |
| Charger connected, but no charging current (ammeter reads zero). | Incorrect battery connection; battery is fully charged; severely discharged battery; internal fault. | Verify correct polarity (RED to +, BLACK to -). Check battery voltage. If battery is severely discharged, it may not accept a charge immediately. Contact support if problem persists. |
| Stop/Go-light indicates incorrect polarity. | Charging clamps connected incorrectly. | Disconnect from AC power. Reconnect RED (+) clamp to positive (+) terminal and BLACK (-) clamp to negative (-) terminal. |
| Charger overheats and shuts down. | Blocked ventilation; prolonged use at high current; internal fault. | Ensure ventilation openings are clear. Allow charger to cool down. Reduce charging time or current setting if possible. |
