Setup

1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover, usually on the rear or bottom of the unit.
  2. Remove the cover.
  3. Connect a new 9-volt battery to the battery clip, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Place the battery into the compartment and replace the cover securely.
  5. The meter is now powered and ready for use. Battery life is typically over 2000 tests or 1 year.

2. Initial Check

Before first use, ensure the meter needle rests at zero when no sample is present. If it does not, refer to the calibration section in the Maintenance chapter.

Operating Instructions

Taking a Measurement

  1. Prepare the Sample: Ensure the sample liquid is free of air bubbles and suspended solids.
  2. Fill the Sample Cup: Pour the sample liquid into the white sample cup/electrode well on top of the meter. Fill it sufficiently to cover the electrodes completely.
  3. Read the Measurement: The meter will automatically display the conductivity reading on the analog scale. Allow a few seconds for the reading to stabilize.
  4. Record the Reading: Note down the value indicated by the needle on the scale. The scale is marked in micromhos/microsiemens per centimeter.
  5. Empty and Rinse: After each measurement, empty the sample cup and rinse it thoroughly with deionized or distilled water to prevent contamination for subsequent readings.
  6. Temperature Compensation: The meter automatically compensates for temperature variations from 50° to 160°F (10° to 71°C), ensuring accurate readings across a range of temperatures.

Cleaning the Electrodes

Regular cleaning of the electrodes is crucial for accurate measurements.

Calibration

While the Myron L 512M5 is designed for stability, periodic calibration with a known standard solution is recommended to ensure continued accuracy.

  1. Obtain a conductivity standard solution with a known value within the meter's range (e.g., 1000 µS/cm).
  2. Fill the sample cup with the standard solution.
  3. Locate the calibration adjustment screw (refer to the product diagram or manufacturer's specific instructions if unsure).
  4. Using a small screwdriver, carefully turn the adjustment screw until the meter needle reads the exact value of the standard solution.
  5. Rinse the sample cup and electrodes thoroughly after calibration.

Battery Replacement
