Setup
1. Physical Installation
The Smart Keypad can be mounted near your door using either the included screws and wall anchors or the double-sided tape. Ensure the mounting location is within 10 feet (approximately 3 meters) of your August Smart Lock for optimal Bluetooth connectivity.

2. Battery Installation
The keypad requires 2 AAA batteries, which are included. To install or replace batteries, slide off the battery cover on the back of the unit and insert the batteries according to the polarity markings. Replace the cover securely.

3. App Setup and Pairing
Download the free August app for iOS or Android. Follow the in-app instructions to add your Smart Keypad and pair it with your existing August Smart Lock. This process typically involves activating the keypad and confirming its connection within the app.

4. Creating Entry Codes
Within the August app, navigate to the keypad settings to create unique entry codes. You can assign different codes to various users and set schedules for when these codes are active. Codes must be at least 6 digits long for security.
Operating Instructions
1. Locking the Door
To lock your door, simply press the August logo button on the keypad. The keypad will illuminate to confirm the lock action. Ensure the door is fully closed before initiating the lock command.

2. Unlocking the Door
To unlock the door, enter your 6-digit (or longer) entry code on the keypad, then press the checkmark button. The keypad will illuminate and the August Smart Lock will unlock. If an incorrect code is entered multiple times, the keypad may temporarily disable for security.

3. Auto-Lock and Auto-Unlock Features
The August app offers optional Auto-Lock and Auto-Unlock features. Auto-Lock can be configured to automatically lock your door after a set period (e.g., 30 seconds to 30 minutes) once it has been unlocked. Auto-Unlock can be set to unlock your door automatically as you approach your home with your smartphone. These features can be managed and customized within the August app settings.
4. Activity Log
The August app maintains a detailed activity log, showing who entered or exited your home and at what time. This log provides an overview of all lock and unlock events, whether performed via the keypad, app, or manually.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The August Smart Keypad is powered by 2 AAA batteries. The August app will notify you when the battery level is critically low, prompting you to replace them. To replace, slide off the battery cover on the back of the keypad, remove the old batteries, insert new AAA batteries with correct polarity, and reattach the cover.
Troubleshooting
- Keypad Not Responding: Check battery levels and replace if necessary. Ensure the keypad is within Bluetooth range of the August Smart Lock.
- Bluetooth Connectivity Issues: Verify the keypad is within 10 feet of the August Smart Lock. Environmental factors (e.g., metal doors, thick walls, humidity) can affect Bluetooth signal strength.
- Entry Code Not Working: Ensure the correct 6-digit (or longer) code is entered. If multiple incorrect attempts are made, the keypad may temporarily lock out.
- App Connectivity Issues: Ensure your smartphone's Bluetooth is enabled and you are within range of the Smart Lock. For remote access, an August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge is required (sold separately).
- Firmware Update Issues: If experiencing problems during firmware updates, ensure your phone remains close to the device and has a stable internet connection. Contact August Home support if issues persist.
