Introduction
The Tekpower TP8229 is a versatile 5-in-1 digital multimeter, designed as an upgraded version of the Mastech MS8229. This device integrates a multimeter, sound level meter, thermometer, lux meter, and humidity meter into a single, compact unit. It features a clear, backlit LCD screen for easy reading, and includes audible and visual warnings for incorrect test lead jack connections, enhancing user safety. The TP8229 provides comprehensive measurement capabilities for various electrical parameters and environmental conditions, making it an essential tool for professionals and hobbyists alike.

Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the multimeter and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect the device for any signs of damage. If any components are missing or damaged, contact your vendor immediately.

2. Battery Installation
The TP8229 requires three (3) AAA 1.5V batteries for operation. To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the multimeter is turned OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device. This is typically secured by screws behind the kickstand.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screws and open the battery compartment.
- Insert three new AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the cover and secure it with the screws.

3. Connecting Test Leads
For most electrical measurements, connect the red test lead to the appropriate input jack (e.g., VΩHz% or mA/µA/A) and the black test lead to the COM (common) jack. The device features sound and light warnings to indicate incorrect jack connections for the selected function.
Operating Instructions
The TP8229 features a central rotary switch to select the primary measurement function and several buttons for additional settings and features.

1. Power On/Off
Turn the rotary switch from the OFF position to any desired measurement function to power on the device. To power off, turn the rotary switch back to the OFF position.
2. Multimeter Functions (DMM)
- Voltage (DCV/ACV): Rotate the switch to V~ for AC voltage or V- for DC voltage. Connect test leads in parallel to the circuit.
- Current (DCA/ACA): Rotate the switch to A~ for AC current or A- for DC current. Connect test leads in series with the circuit. Ensure correct jack selection (10A or mA/µA).
- Resistance (Ω): Rotate the switch to Ω. Connect test leads across the component.
- Capacitance (F): Rotate the switch to F. Connect test leads across the capacitor.
- Frequency (Hz): Rotate the switch to Hz%. Connect test leads to the signal source.
- Diode Test (→|): Rotate the switch to →|. Connect test leads across the diode.
- Continuity (•))): Rotate the switch to •))). A buzzer will sound if resistance is less than 40 Ohms.
3. Environmental Measurement Functions
- Temperature (Temp): Rotate the switch to Temp. Connect the K-type thermocouple to the dedicated input jacks. Press the °C/°F button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- Relative Humidity (RH): Rotate the switch to RH. The built-in sensor will display the humidity level.
- Lux (Lux): Rotate the switch to Lux. The built-in light sensor will measure illuminance. Use the x10 Lux setting for higher ranges.
- Sound Decibel (dB): Rotate the switch to dB. The built-in microphone will measure sound levels.
4. Additional Features
- Backlight: Press the light bulb icon button to activate the blue LED backlight for the LCD screen.
- HOLD Function: Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
- RANGE Button: In manual range modes, press RANGE to cycle through available measurement ranges.
- REL (Relative) Mode: Press REL to store the current reading as a reference value, and subsequent measurements will be displayed as a difference from this reference.
Maintenance
1. Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries promptly to ensure accurate readings. Refer to the 'Battery Installation' section under Setup for detailed instructions. Always use three (3) new AAA 1.5V batteries.
2. Fuse Replacement
The TP8229 is protected by internal fuses. If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. Fuse specifications are typically printed near the input jacks or inside the battery compartment. Always replace with fuses of the exact same type and rating (e.g., 10A/250V and 400mA/250V) to prevent damage to the meter or risk of injury.
3. Cleaning
Clean the meter regularly with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the device is completely dry before use.
Troubleshooting
- Device does not power on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are fresh.
- Display is blank or dim: Replace batteries. If the issue persists, contact support.
- Inaccurate readings: Ensure test leads are correctly connected for the selected function. Check battery level. Verify the correct measurement range is selected (if not in auto-range).
- Current measurement not working: Check the fuse. Refer to 'Fuse Replacement' in the Maintenance section.
- Excessive battery drain: Some users have reported issues with battery drain if the unit is not explicitly turned off. Always ensure the rotary switch is set to the OFF position when not in use. For long-term storage, it is recommended to remove the batteries.
- Product arrived damaged: If the product arrived damaged, contact the seller or manufacturer immediately for assistance with return or replacement.
