Myron L 6PIIFCE User Manual

Conductivity, Resistivity, TDS, pH, ORP/Free Chlorine, Temperature Meter

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Myron L 6PIIFCE meter. This instrument is designed for accurate and versatile water quality analysis, replacing the older Myron L 6PII model. It delivers exceptional accuracy of ±1% of reading, achieved through advanced four-electrode conductivity cell technology, a powerful microprocessor, proprietary circuit design, and conversion algorithms for common solution types, along with a unique pH/ORP sensor. With displayed values up to 9999 on its full four-digit LCD, it offers high resolution for various measurements.

Setup

Unpacking and Inspection

Upon receiving your Myron L 6PIIFCE meter, carefully unpack all components and inspect for any signs of damage during transit. Retain the packaging materials for future storage or shipping.

Battery Installation

The meter operates on standard batteries. Locate the battery compartment on the rear of the unit. Insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity as indicated inside the compartment. Close the compartment securely.

Initial Power On

Press the power button to turn on the meter. The LCD display should illuminate and show initial readings or a welcome message. If the display does not turn on, check battery installation or replace with fresh batteries.

Operating Instructions

Measurement Modes

The 6PIIFCE meter supports multiple measurement modes, including Conductivity (COND), Resistivity (RES), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP), Free Chlorine (Fr Chl), and Temperature. Use the dedicated buttons on the keypad to switch between these modes.

  • COND: Measures electrical conductivity of the solution.
  • RES: Measures electrical resistivity of the solution.
  • TDS: Measures total dissolved solids in the solution.
  • pH: Measures the acidity or alkalinity of the solution.
  • ORP/Fr Chl: Measures Oxidation-Reduction Potential or Free Chlorine.
  • Temperature: Displays the temperature of the solution.

Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the sensor well is clean and free of debris.
  2. Rinse the sensor well with a small amount of the sample to be tested, then discard the rinse.
  3. Fill the sensor well with the sample solution, ensuring the electrodes are fully submerged.
  4. Select the desired measurement mode using the corresponding button (e.g., COND, pH).
  5. Allow the reading to stabilize on the LCD display before recording.

Calibration

Regular calibration is crucial for maintaining measurement accuracy. Refer to the specific calibration procedures for each parameter (Conductivity, pH, ORP) in the detailed manual. Use certified calibration solutions appropriate for your measurement range.

To calibrate, press the CAL/MCLR button and follow the on-screen prompts. The meter will guide you through the process.

Data Logging

The meter features a data logging capability. To store a measurement, press the MS button. To recall stored measurements, press the MR button. Consult the full manual for details on managing stored data.

Maintenance

Sensor Cleaning

After each use, rinse the sensor well thoroughly with deionized or distilled water to prevent residue buildup. For stubborn deposits, use a soft brush or a mild cleaning solution as recommended by Myron L. Avoid abrasive materials that could damage the electrodes.

Storage

When not in use, store the meter in a clean, dry place. Ensure the sensor well is clean and, if applicable, the pH/ORP sensor is kept moist with a storage solution to prolong its life. Refer to the full manual for specific storage instructions for the pH/ORP sensor.

Battery Replacement

Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Use only the specified battery type to ensure optimal performance and prevent damage to the unit.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Meter does not power on.Dead or incorrectly installed batteries.Check battery polarity; replace batteries.
Inaccurate readings.Dirty sensor; expired calibration; incorrect calibration solution.Clean sensor; recalibrate using fresh, appropriate solutions.
Slow response time.Sensor contamination; aging pH/ORP sensor.Clean sensor thoroughly; consider replacing pH/ORP sensor if old.
Display shows "Err" or "---".Measurement out of range; sensor issue.Ensure sample is within meter's range; clean sensor; contact support if persistent.
