2. Compatibility and Verification

IMPORTANT: These replacement doors are specifically designed for certain Heatilator fireplace models. It is crucial to verify your fireplace's model number before proceeding with installation.

2.1. Verifying Your Fireplace Model

Locate the metal tag inside your fireplace's firebox. This tag contains the manufacturer's name and the specific model number. These replacement doors are ONLY compatible with the following Heatilator models:

  • E36
  • EC36
  • BC36R
  • BC36C

If your fireplace model number is not listed above, these doors will not fit.

2.2. Required Existing Components

For these doors to install properly, your fireplace must already have the appropriate existing pieces. You need:

  • A top track
  • Two clips in the top left and right corners of your firebox
  • Two holes in the bottom left and right corners of your firebox

If your fireplace does not have these tracks and clips, these replacement doors are not suitable. You would need to consider bifold fireplace doors that include a full frame.

Note: These doors will NOT fit fireplaces made by the "Majestic" brand.

3. Installation Instructions

Your EZ-FIT FIREPLACE DOORS arrive fully assembled and are designed for a snap-in installation into compatible Heatilator fireplaces. The primary adjustment involves the tension pins to ensure a proper fit.

3.1. Tools Required

  • 10mm wrench

3.2. Installation Steps

  1. Unpack the Doors: Carefully remove the doors from their packaging. They are pre-assembled.
  2. Position the Doors: Align the top pins of the door panels with the existing clips in the top track of your fireplace.
  3. Insert Bottom Pins: Guide the bottom pins into the corresponding holes in the bottom of your firebox.
  4. Adjust Tension Pins (if necessary): If the doors do not close properly or seem misaligned, the tension pins may need adjustment.

Video 3.1: This video demonstrates how to adjust the tension pin on the fireplace door. Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the pin, slide it to the desired position for proper door alignment, and then retighten, being careful not to overtighten.

  1. Fine-tune Adjustment: Use a 10mm wrench to slightly loosen the tension pin. This allows the pin to slide, enabling you to adjust the door's position for optimal fit and smooth operation.
  2. Retighten: Once the door is in the correct position, retighten the tension pin. Avoid overtightening.
  3. Test Operation: Open and close the doors several times to ensure they operate smoothly and close completely. Repeat adjustment if necessary.

4. Operation Guidelines

Proper operation of your fireplace doors is essential for safety and efficiency.

4.1. Safety Notice: Doors Open During Fire

WARNING: Fireplace doors must be fully opened while a fire is burning.

These doors are made with tempered glass, which can withstand temperatures up to approximately 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Typical fireplaces can reach temperatures between 500 and 1200 degrees Fahrenheit during operation. Keeping the doors closed while a fire is burning can lead to several issues:

  • Heat Loss: Reduced heat transfer into the room.
  • Ventilation Issues: Impaired airflow, potentially leading to smoke buildup.
  • Moisture Buildup: Condensation can form on the tracks and glass.
  • Glass Shattering: If the heat from the fire becomes too intense, the tempered glass can shatter, posing a safety hazard.

Ceramic glass is designed to withstand higher temperatures (up to about 1400 degrees Fahrenheit), but these doors utilize tempered glass. Always ensure the doors are fully open when a fire is active.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help preserve the appearance and functionality of your fireplace doors.

5.1. Cleaning the Glass

To clean the tempered glass, use a non-abrasive glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads that could scratch the glass or damage the frame finish.

5.2. Cleaning the Frame

Wipe the anodized aluminum frame with a damp cloth to remove dust and soot. For stubborn marks, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by drying with a clean cloth.

5.3. Checking Alignment

Periodically check the door alignment and the tightness of the tension pins. If the doors become stiff or misaligned, refer to the troubleshooting section for adjustment instructions.

6. Troubleshooting

If your replacement fireplace doors do not close properly, appear too big, or seem misaligned, these issues are common and can often be fixed by adjusting the clips. Here's what to do:

Troubleshooting guide for fireplace door installation

Image 6.1: A visual guide detailing steps to troubleshoot common installation issues for replacement fireplace doors, focusing on clip adjustments.

  1. Check Door Fit: Ensure that you ordered the correct doors for your fireplace model (E36, EC36, BC36R, BC36C).
  2. Inspect the Top Clips: Look at the clips holding the doors in place, especially those in the top track. If the doors aren't closing properly or seem misaligned, the clips might need adjusting.
  3. Loosen the Screws: Locate the screws securing the clips in the top track. Loosen these screws slightly – just enough to move the clips without removing the screws completely.
  4. Adjust the Clips: Once the screws are loose, slide the clips along the track to better fit the doors. This will help align the doors and ensure they open and close smoothly.
  5. Tighten the Screws: After adjusting the clips to the proper position, retighten the screws. Be careful not to over tighten them.
  6. Test the Doors: Open and close the doors to make sure everything works properly. If they still don't close correctly, repeat the adjustment process until they do.

*Note: The fireplace doors will have gaps on the left and right sides of approximately ¼ inch.
