1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of the PULS UB10.242 DC-UPS Controller. The UB10.242 is designed to ensure an uninterrupted 24VDC power supply by managing a connected battery, providing backup power during mains failures.

2. Safety Instructions

Please read and understand all safety instructions before installing or operating the device. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or damage to the product.

  • Ensure all power sources are disconnected before performing any installation or maintenance work.
  • Only qualified personnel should install and service this equipment.
  • Protect the device from moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not open the device enclosure. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Use appropriate wiring and fuses as specified in the technical data.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.

3. Product Overview

The PULS UB10.242 is a compact DC-UPS controller designed for DIN rail mounting. It features dedicated terminals for input power, battery connection, and regulated output. Status LEDs provide visual feedback on the unit's operational state and diagnostic information.

Figure 1: PULS UB10.242 DC-UPS Controller. This image displays the front panel with terminal blocks for Input (24V), Battery (12V), and Output (24V). Various LED indicators for Status (Ready, Charging, Buffering) and Diagnosis (Overload, Replace battery, Inhibit active, Check Wiring) are visible. Battery temperature indicators (A-F) are also present.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the UB10.242 DC-UPS Controller:

  1. Mounting: Mount the UB10.242 onto a standard DIN rail. Ensure sufficient space for ventilation above and below the unit.
  2. Input Connection: Connect the 24VDC input power supply to the 'Input 24V' terminals. Observe correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Battery Connection: Connect a compatible 12V battery (17-130AH capacity) to the 'Battery 12V' terminals. Ensure correct polarity. The UB10.242 is designed to work with a 12V battery, which it then uses to provide 24V output during buffering.
  4. Output Connection: Connect your 24VDC load to the 'Output 24V' terminals. Observe correct polarity.
  5. Optional Connections: The unit may include additional terminals for remote signaling or control. Refer to the wiring diagram on the unit or specific product documentation for these connections.
  6. Power On: After all connections are secure and verified, apply power to the input. The unit will begin charging the connected battery and supplying power to the output.

5. Operating Instructions

The UB10.242 operates automatically once installed and powered. Monitor the LED indicators for operational status:

Status Indicators:

  • Ready: Indicates the unit is operating normally, providing power to the load and charging the battery.
  • Charging: Illuminates when the battery is actively being charged.
  • Buffering: Illuminates when the unit is supplying power to the load from the battery (during an input power failure).

Diagnosis Indicators:

  • Overload: Indicates the output current exceeds the unit's capacity.
  • Replace battery: Suggests the connected battery is nearing end-of-life or has a fault.
  • Inhibit active: Indicates a control signal is active, preventing battery discharge or charging.
  • Check Wiring: Indicates a potential issue with the input, battery, or output connections.

Battery Temperature Indicators:

The unit features LEDs (A-F) to indicate the battery's ambient temperature relative to the unit's temperature, which influences charging parameters.

  • A: Same as this unit
  • B: 10°C lower than this unit
  • C: 20°C lower than this unit
  • D: 30°C constant temperature
  • E: 20°C constant temperature
  • F: 10°C constant temperature

6. Maintenance

The PULS UB10.242 is designed for maintenance-free operation. However, periodic checks are recommended:

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically check the unit for any signs of damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
  • Battery Health: Monitor the 'Replace battery' indicator. If illuminated, inspect or replace the battery as needed. Battery lifespan is influenced by temperature and discharge cycles.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not obstructed by dust or debris. Clean if necessary using compressed air.
  • Connection Integrity: Verify that all terminal connections remain tight and secure.

7. Troubleshooting

Refer to the diagnostic LEDs for initial troubleshooting:

IndicatorPossible CauseAction
Overload LED onOutput current exceeds maximum rating.Reduce the load connected to the output or check for short circuits.
Replace battery LED onBattery is faulty or at end-of-life.Test the battery. Replace if necessary. Ensure battery capacity is within 17-130AH.
Inhibit active LED onExternal control signal is active.Check the inhibit control wiring and external signal source.
Check Wiring LED onProblem with input, battery, or output connections.Verify all connections for correct polarity and secure contact. Check for loose wires.
No LEDs onNo input power or internal fault.Check input power supply. If input power is present, contact technical support.
