Attaching the Safety Guard
The safety guard helps protect the user from flying debris. Align the safety guard with the mounting slots on the trimmer body and secure it firmly. Refer to the diagram below for proper attachment.

Connecting to Power
This hedge trimmer is corded electric. Use a suitable outdoor extension cord. The extension cord restraint hook prevents accidental disconnection during operation.
- Form a loop with the extension cord and push it through the hole in the rear handle.
- Hook the loop over the extension cord restraint hook.
- Plug the trimmer's power cord into the extension cord.
- Ensure the connection is secure and the cord is positioned to avoid entanglement or cutting.
Operating Your Hedge Trimmer
Before Operation

Starting and Stopping
The Sun Joe HJ22HTE features a dual-handed safety switch to prevent accidental starts.
- To start: Firmly grasp both the front handle and the rear handle. Depress the safety switch on the front handle and then squeeze the trigger switch on the rear handle.
- To stop: Release either the front safety switch or the rear trigger switch. The blades will stop quickly.
Trimming Techniques
For best results, use a sweeping motion and cut small amounts at a time. The 22-inch dual-action blades cut efficiently in both directions.
- Horizontal Trimming: Hold the trimmer with the blades slightly tilted downwards (5-10 degrees) and sweep along the top of the hedge.
- Vertical Trimming: Hold the trimmer vertically and sweep upwards, then downwards, along the sides of the hedge.
- Avoid Overreaching: Maintain a balanced stance and avoid overreaching. Use a ladder if necessary for higher areas.
- Cut Small Branches: The trimmer is designed for branches up to 0.63 inches in diameter. Do not force the blades through thicker branches.

Maintenance
Blade Care
