Setup
1. Unpacking

2. Connections
Before making any connections, ensure the receiver is unplugged from the power outlet.
Speaker Connections
Connect your speakers to the corresponding terminals on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for each speaker. The RX-V479/RX-V579 supports 5.1-channel speaker configurations.

Audio/Video Source Connections
Connect your audio and video devices (e.g., Blu-ray player, game console, cable box) to the HDMI, optical, coaxial, or analog input jacks on the receiver. Use HDMI for the best audio and video quality.

Network Connection

3. Initial Setup (YPAO Automatic Calibration)
The Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) automatically analyzes room acoustics and adjusts various audio parameters to provide optimal sound quality. Follow these steps:
- Connect the supplied YPAO microphone to the YPAO MIC jack on the front panel.
- Place the microphone at your primary listening position.
- Turn on the receiver and follow the on-screen instructions to start the YPAO calibration.
- Once calibration is complete, disconnect the YPAO microphone.
Operating the Receiver
1. Basic Operation
- Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the front panel or remote control.
- Input Selection: Use the INPUT selector buttons on the front panel or the dedicated input buttons on the remote control (e.g., HDMI 1, AV 1).
- Volume Control: Adjust the master volume using the large VOLUME knob on the front panel or the VOLUME +/- buttons on the remote control.

2. Advanced Features
Sound Modes
The receiver offers various sound programs to enhance your listening experience. Press the PROGRAM buttons on the remote control to cycle through modes like SURROUND DECODER, STRAIGHT, and various DSP programs.
Network Functions (MusicCast)
Utilize the MusicCast app on your smartphone or tablet to stream music from network-attached storage (NAS), internet radio, or music streaming services. The app also allows for multi-room audio playback.
USB Playback
Connect a USB storage device to the USB port on the front panel to play audio files (MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, WAV) stored on the device.
3. Remote Control
The supplied remote control provides full functionality for your receiver. Refer to the remote control diagram in the appendix for button layouts and functions.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
