1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the HTC Instrument LX-103 Digital Lux Meter. This device is designed for precise measurement of visible light, providing readings in both Lux and Foot-Candles (FC). It is suitable for various applications including photography, environmental monitoring, and industrial settings. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your new lux meter.

The LX-103 features a large LCD display with backlight, a bar graph indicator, auto power-off, and functions for data hold, maximum, minimum, and average readings. It can measure light intensity up to 200,000 Lux or 20,000 FC.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the LX-103 Digital Lux Meter. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the device.

• Do not attempt to open or modify the device. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
• Keep the device away from water, moisture, and extreme temperatures.
• Avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to strong impacts.
• Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
• Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
• Important: This device is designed to measure visible light emitted by fluorescent lamps, metal halide lamps, high-voltage sodium lamps, or incandescent lamps. It is not intended for measuring direct sunlight.

3. Product Overview

The LX-103 Digital Lux Meter consists of a main unit with an LCD display, control buttons, and a light sensor. The light sensor is protected by a removable cap.

Key Components:

• Light Sensor: Located at the top of the device, covered by a protective cap.
• LCD Display: Shows measurement readings, units, and various indicators.
• Power Button (①): Turns the device on or off.
• HOLD Button (H): Freezes the current reading on the display.
• REC Button: Activates MAX/MIN/AVG recording mode.
• REL Button: Activates relative measurement mode.
• RAN Button: Manually selects the measurement range.
• UNIT Button: Toggles between Lux and Foot-Candle (FC) units.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The LX-103 Lux Meter requires AAA batteries for operation.

1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
2. Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
3. Insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2 Powering On/Off

• To turn on the device, press the red ① Power button.
• To turn off the device, press and hold the red ① Power button for approximately 2 seconds.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Light Measurement

1. Remove the protective cap from the light sensor.
2. Turn on the device by pressing the Power button.
3. Point the light sensor towards the light source you wish to measure. Ensure the sensor is positioned correctly to receive the light.
4. The current light intensity will be displayed on the LCD screen.
5. Press the UNIT button to switch between Lux and Foot-Candle (FC) units.

5.2 Data Hold Function

To freeze the current reading on the display:

• Press the HOLD button. The 'HOLD' indicator will appear on the display.
• Press the HOLD button again to release the data hold and resume live measurement.

5.3 MAX/MIN/AVG Recording

To record maximum, minimum, and average light intensity:

1. Press the REC button. The 'REC' indicator will appear.
2. The meter will start recording the maximum, minimum, and average values.
3. Press the REC button repeatedly to cycle through MAX, MIN, and AVG readings.
4. To exit recording mode, press and hold the REC button until the 'REC' indicator disappears.

5.4 Range Selection

The LX-103 has multiple measurement ranges. By default, it operates in auto-ranging mode. To manually select a range:

• Press the RAN button. The 'AUTO' indicator will disappear.
• Press the RAN button repeatedly to cycle through available ranges.
• To return to auto-ranging mode, press and hold the RAN button until 'AUTO' reappears.

5.5 Backlight

The LCD display features a backlight for use in low-light conditions. The backlight typically activates automatically or can be toggled by a specific button press (refer to the device's on-screen prompts or a quick press of the power button if not specified).

5.6 Auto Power Off

To conserve battery life, the LX-103 will automatically power off after a period of inactivity. This feature can usually be disabled or enabled by a specific key combination during power-on (refer to the device's specific instructions if needed).

6.1 Cleaning

• Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Keep the light sensor clean and free from dust or smudges to ensure accurate readings.

6.2 Storage

• When not in use, store the LX-103 in its protective carrying case in a cool, dry place.
• Ensure the light sensor cap is in place to protect the sensor.
• Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
