Figure 4: The angle grinder is capable of grinding and cutting steel, bricks, tiles, and stone. Always use the appropriate disc for the material.
- Always allow the disc to reach full speed before contacting the workpiece.
- Apply light, even pressure. Do not force the tool, as this can lead to kickback or damage to the disc/tool.
- For grinding, hold the tool at a slight angle (15-30 degrees) to the workpiece.
- For cutting, hold the tool perpendicular to the workpiece and make straight, controlled cuts.
- Be aware of sparks and debris. Ensure no flammable materials are nearby.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your angle grinder.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the tool with a dry cloth. Do not use water or chemical cleaners. Ensure ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris.
- Carbon Brushes: The carbon brushes are wear parts. If the motor performance decreases or excessive sparking occurs, the brushes may need replacement. This should be done by a qualified service technician.
- Cord Inspection: Regularly inspect the power cord for damage. Do not use the tool if the cord is frayed or cut.
- Disc Inspection: Before each use, inspect the abrasive disc for cracks, chips, or excessive wear. Replace damaged discs immediately.
