5.1. Choosing a Mounting Location

5.2. Mounting the Powertower

1. Prepare the Surface: Clean the mounting surface thoroughly. If using a template, position it accurately and mark the drilling points.
2. Drill Mounting Holes: Carefully drill holes according to the marked positions and recommended drill bit sizes. Ensure holes are properly sealed to prevent water ingress.
3. Secure the Powertower: Position the Powertower over the drilled holes. Apply marine sealant around the base if required by your vessel's construction or local regulations (note: marine sealant is generally not required for the internal cable seal, but may be needed for the base mount). Secure the Powertower using the provided mounting hardware. Tighten all fasteners evenly to ensure a stable mount.

5.3. Cable Management

The Powertower features an internally mounted Scanstrut DS30 cable seal with split bungs. This design allows for easy installation without the need to cut or remove plugs from your radar or antenna cables. Inserts are included to accommodate cables from all major radomes.

1. Route Cables: Guide the radar or antenna cables through the Powertower's internal channel.
2. Install Cable Seal: Utilize the appropriate split bung inserts for your cable diameter. Position the cable seal components to ensure a watertight entry and exit point for the cables.
3. Connect Equipment: Mount your radar or antenna to the top plate of the Powertower according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Connect all necessary cables.

6. Operation

The Scanstrut APT-150-01 Powertower is a passive mounting solution. Once installed, its primary function is to provide a stable and elevated platform for your marine radar or antenna. No active operation is required from the Powertower itself.

Ensure that the mounted equipment (radar, antenna) is operated according to its manufacturer's instructions. The Powertower's design helps optimize the performance of your marine electronics by providing an unobstructed field of view.

• Cleaning: Periodically clean the Powertower with fresh water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or solvents that could damage the finish.
• Inspection: Regularly inspect all mounting hardware for tightness. Check for any signs of corrosion, wear, or damage to the Powertower or its components.
• Cable Seal: Ensure the cable seal remains intact and watertight. Replace any damaged bungs or seals promptly.
• Fasteners: Re-tighten any loose fasteners as necessary, but do not overtighten.

8. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter.

• Issue: Radar/Antenna performance is poor or intermittent.
  Solution:
  • Verify that the Powertower is securely mounted and free from excessive vibration.
  • Check for any new obstructions that might be blocking the line of sight of the radar/antenna.
  • Inspect all cable connections for corrosion or damage.
  • Refer to the troubleshooting guide for your specific radar or antenna unit.
• Issue: Water ingress around the cable entry point.
  Solution:
  • Ensure the internal DS30 cable seal is correctly installed with the appropriate split bungs for your cable diameter.
  • Check for any damage to the cable seal components and replace if necessary.
  • Verify that the cable itself is not damaged where it passes through the seal.
• Issue: Powertower appears loose or unstable.
  Solution:
  • Inspect all mounting bolts and nuts. Tighten them evenly and securely.
  • Check the integrity of the mounting surface on your vessel.
