Operating Instructions
Starting the Mower
The mower features a zone starting/safety bar. To start, ensure the battery is fully charged and properly installed. Engage the safety bar and press the start button (if applicable) or pull the bail lever towards the handle.
Height Adjustment
The cutting height can be adjusted using a single lever, offering settings from 1.75 inches to 4 inches. Locate the height adjustment lever near the wheels and move it to your desired cutting height. Ensure the mower is off and the blade has stopped before adjusting.

Mulching and Side Discharge
This mower offers 2-in-1 functionality for mulching or side discharge. Refer to your mower's specific diagrams for how to switch between these modes. Typically, mulching involves removing the side discharge chute and ensuring the mulching plug is in place. For side discharge, attach the chute and remove the mulching plug.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your lawn mower.
Cleaning
- After each use, disconnect the battery and clean the underside of the mower deck to remove grass clippings and debris.
- Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a damp cloth. Do not use water jets or high-pressure washers directly on the mower.
Battery Care
- Store the battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- For long-term storage, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) to maintain its health.
- Always use the specified charger for recharging.
Blade Maintenance
- Periodically inspect the cutting blade for sharpness and damage. A dull blade can tear grass, leading to an unhealthy lawn.
- If the blade is dull, it can be sharpened or replaced. Always disconnect the battery before performing any blade maintenance. Consult a qualified service technician if you are unsure.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Earthwise 60617 lawn mower.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Mower does not start | Battery not charged or improperly installed; Safety bar not engaged; Overload protection activated. | Ensure battery is fully charged and correctly seated. Engage the safety bar. Allow mower to cool down if it was overloaded. |
| Poor cutting performance | Dull or damaged blade; Cutting height too low for grass conditions; Excessive grass height. | Inspect and sharpen/replace blade. Adjust cutting height. Mow tall grass in multiple passes. |
| Battery life is short | Battery not fully charged; Battery nearing end of life; Mowing thick or wet grass. | Ensure battery is fully charged before use. Consider replacing an aging battery. Avoid mowing excessively thick or wet grass, which drains power faster. |
