Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Friedman ASM-12 Active Modeler Profiler Monitor. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the unit and retain it for future reference.

The Friedman ASM-12 is a 500-watt, 1x12 inch full-range powered extension speaker cabinet designed to complement amp modeling devices. It provides the sound and feel of a real speaker, enhancing the experience of digital emulations.

Setup

Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the ASM-12 from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. If damage is found, contact your dealer immediately.

Included Components:

Placement

Place the ASM-12 on a stable, level surface. The unit features a tilt-back design, allowing it to be angled for optimal sound projection when used as a floor monitor. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

Power Connection

  1. Ensure the power switch on the ASM-12 is in the "OFF" position.
  2. Connect the supplied power cord to the AC inlet on the rear panel of the ASM-12.
  3. Plug the other end of the power cord into a grounded AC power outlet.
  4. Important: This unit is not waterproof. Avoid exposure to moisture or liquids.

Audio Connections

The ASM-12 utilizes XLR connectivity for audio input. Connect your guitar amp modeler or profiler's output to the XLR input on the ASM-12 using a high-quality XLR cable.

Operation

Powering On/Off

  1. Before powering on, ensure all volume controls on your modeler/profiler and the ASM-12 are set to their minimum levels.
  2. Flip the power switch on the rear panel of the ASM-12 to the "ON" position.
  3. Gradually increase the volume on your modeler/profiler and then on the ASM-12 to your desired listening level.
  4. To power off, reverse this process: lower volumes, then switch the ASM-12 off.

Using with Amp Modelers and Profilers

The ASM-12 is specifically designed as a full-range, flat-response (FRFR) monitor for guitar amp modelers and profilers. It accurately reproduces the sound of your digital emulations without adding its own coloration, allowing the full character of your modeled amps and cabinets to be heard.

Control Method

The primary control for the ASM-12 is typically a volume knob located on the unit. Further sound shaping and effects are managed directly through your connected guitar amp modeler or profiler. The specification "Control Method: Voice" likely refers to the unit's ability to reproduce the nuances of a guitar's voice and not literal voice command control.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To clean the exterior of the ASM-12, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish.

Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the ASM-12 in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
