Power Connection
- Ensure the power switch on the ASM-12 is in the "OFF" position.
- Connect the supplied power cord to the AC inlet on the rear panel of the ASM-12.
- Plug the other end of the power cord into a grounded AC power outlet.
- Important: This unit is not waterproof. Avoid exposure to moisture or liquids.
Audio Connections
The ASM-12 utilizes XLR connectivity for audio input. Connect your guitar amp modeler or profiler's output to the XLR input on the ASM-12 using a high-quality XLR cable.
- Input: XLR (balanced)
- Ensure all connections are secure before powering on the unit.
Operation
Powering On/Off
- Before powering on, ensure all volume controls on your modeler/profiler and the ASM-12 are set to their minimum levels.
- Flip the power switch on the rear panel of the ASM-12 to the "ON" position.
- Gradually increase the volume on your modeler/profiler and then on the ASM-12 to your desired listening level.
- To power off, reverse this process: lower volumes, then switch the ASM-12 off.
Using with Amp Modelers and Profilers
The ASM-12 is specifically designed as a full-range, flat-response (FRFR) monitor for guitar amp modelers and profilers. It accurately reproduces the sound of your digital emulations without adding its own coloration, allowing the full character of your modeled amps and cabinets to be heard.
- Connect the main output of your modeler/profiler to the XLR input of the ASM-12.
- Adjust the output level from your modeler/profiler and the input gain/volume on the ASM-12 for optimal signal-to-noise ratio and desired loudness.
- The ASM-12 is compatible with various guitar processing devices.
Control Method
The primary control for the ASM-12 is typically a volume knob located on the unit. Further sound shaping and effects are managed directly through your connected guitar amp modeler or profiler. The specification "Control Method: Voice" likely refers to the unit's ability to reproduce the nuances of a guitar's voice and not literal voice command control.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the exterior of the ASM-12, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish.
Storage
When not in use for extended periods, store the ASM-12 in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Safety Precautions
- Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. The ASM-12 is not waterproof.
- Do not block ventilation openings.
- Do not attempt to service the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
- Always disconnect the power cord before cleaning or moving the unit.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Power cord disconnected; outlet not active; power switch off. | Check power cord connection; test outlet with another device; ensure power switch is ON. |
| No sound | Volume too low; input cable disconnected; modeler/profiler output off; incorrect input selected (if applicable). | Increase volume on ASM-12 and modeler; check XLR cable connection; ensure modeler/profiler is sending audio. |
| Distorted sound | Input signal too high (clipping); faulty cable; damaged speaker. | Reduce input level from modeler/profiler; try a different XLR cable; contact support if speaker damage is suspected. |
| Hum or noise | Ground loop; faulty cable; interference from other electronics. | Ensure all equipment is on the same power circuit; try different cables; move unit away from other electronics. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact Friedman customer support.
