Setup

1. Battery Installation and Charging

Before initial use, fully charge the battery. To install the battery, align it with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it clicks into place. To remove, press the release latch and slide the battery downwards.

Place the radio with the battery installed into the charging cradle. Connect the USB cable to the cradle and a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, power bank, PC, car charger). The LED indicator on the charger will show charging status.

2. Antenna Attachment

Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

3. Belt Clip Attachment

Attach the belt clip to the designated slot on the back of the radio using the provided screws. This allows for convenient carrying.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

To power on the radio, rotate the top knob clockwise. Continue rotating to adjust the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise until a click is heard to power off.

2. Frequency/Channel Mode (VFO/MR)

Press the VFO/MR button to switch between Frequency Mode (VFO) for direct frequency input and Channel Mode (MR) for selecting pre-programmed channels.

3. Band Switching (A/B)

Press the A/B button to switch between the upper and lower frequency display bands. This allows you to monitor two different frequencies simultaneously.

4. Transmitting (PTT Key)

To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) key on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT key to receive.

5. Menu Navigation

Press the MENU button to access the radio's settings. Use the up/down arrow keys to navigate through options and the MENU button again to confirm selections. Press EXIT to return to the main screen.

6. VOX Function

The Voice Operated Exchange (VOX) function allows for hands-free transmission. When VOX is enabled, the radio will transmit automatically when it detects your voice. Adjust VOX sensitivity in the menu.

7. FM Radio

The radio includes an FM broadcast receiver. Activate this function via the menu or a dedicated key (if available) to listen to local FM stations.

8. LED Flashlight

The integrated LED flashlight can be activated for illumination in low-light conditions. Refer to the manual for specific key combinations or menu options to turn it on/off.

9. Emergency Alarm

In an emergency, activate the alarm function. This will emit a loud siren sound and/or transmit an alarm signal to alert others. Consult the menu for alarm settings and activation.

10. Repeater Connection

The RT5R can connect to a repeater to extend its communication range. This typically involves setting the correct offset and CTCSS/DCS tones in the radio's menu. Refer to local repeater information for specific settings.
