THULE WingBar Edge Base Carrier System

Model: 9595B+3068+Z70

For Subaru Impreza Sport 5-Door (GP# H23/12-)

1. Important Safety Information

Read all instructions carefully before installation and use. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Maximum Load Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 75 kg (165 lbs) for this base carrier system. Always refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for its specific roof load limit, and use the lower of the two limits.
  • Secure All Loads: Ensure all cargo is securely fastened to the carrier system using appropriate tie-downs. Loose loads can shift during transit, causing damage or accidents.
  • Regular Checks: Periodically check all bolts, nuts, and straps for tightness, especially before and after long trips.
  • Driving Habits: Adjust your driving speed to suit road conditions and the load being carried. Avoid sudden braking, acceleration, or sharp turns.
  • Height Clearance: Be aware of the increased height of your vehicle with the carrier system and any loaded items, especially when entering garages, car washes, or low-clearance areas.
  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect the carrier system for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Replace any damaged components immediately.

2. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:

  • Thule WingBar Edge 9595B: Two load bars (87 cm and 95 cm)
  • Thule Kit 3068: Vehicle-specific mounting kit (set for one vehicle)
  • Thule Multi-belt Z70: One 4-meter gray multi-belt for securing cargo
  • Instruction Manual

3. Setup (Installation)

This section provides general installation guidelines. For detailed, vehicle-specific instructions, always refer to the separate fitting instructions included with Kit 3068 and consult the official Thule website for your specific vehicle model (Subaru Impreza Sport 5-Door, GP# H23/12-).

  1. Vehicle Preparation: Ensure your vehicle's roof is clean and free of debris where the carrier will be mounted. Note: For some Subaru Impreza Sport models, it may be necessary to replace the original roof molding with a genuine carrier-compatible molding. Refer to your vehicle's service manual or a qualified technician for this procedure if required.
  2. Assemble WingBar Edge: Attach the feet to the WingBar Edge bars according to the instructions provided with the 9595B kit. Ensure the correct bar lengths are used for the front and rear positions as specified in the fitting instructions.
  3. Install Kit Components: Mount the vehicle-specific kit components (Kit 3068) to the feet of the WingBar Edge bars. These components are designed to interface precisely with your vehicle's roof attachment points.
  4. Position on Vehicle: Carefully place the assembled base carrier system onto your vehicle's roof. Align the feet with the designated mounting points as indicated in the Kit 3068 instructions. The approximate bar spacing (front to rear) is 740 mm.
  5. Secure to Vehicle: Tighten all fasteners evenly and securely using the provided tools. Do not overtighten. Ensure the carrier system is firmly attached and does not move when tested.
  6. Final Check: After installation, gently shake the carrier system to confirm it is securely mounted. Re-check all fasteners after the first few kilometers of driving and periodically thereafter.

4. Operating (Usage)

Proper use of your Thule base carrier system ensures safety and longevity.

  1. Loading Cargo: Distribute the load evenly across the bars. Place heavier items closer to the center of the vehicle. Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 75 kg.
  2. Securing Cargo: Always use appropriate tie-downs and straps to secure your cargo. The included 4-meter gray multi-belt (Z70) can be used for general cargo securing. Ensure items cannot shift, slide, or lift off the carrier during transit.
  3. Aerodynamics: Large or irregularly shaped items can affect your vehicle's aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Consider removing the carrier system when not in use to reduce wind noise and drag.
  4. Driving with Load: Be mindful of the added weight and height when driving. Allow for increased braking distances and reduce speed, especially in crosswinds, on rough roads, or when cornering.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the life of your Thule base carrier system.

  • Cleaning: Clean the carrier system regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all components for signs of wear, cracks, corrosion, or damage. Pay close attention to the rubber pads, straps, and plastic parts.
  • Fastener Check: Re-tighten all bolts and nuts as needed. Over time, vibrations can cause fasteners to loosen.
  • Lubrication: If any moving parts become stiff, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the carrier system from your vehicle and store it in a dry, protected area to prevent unnecessary wear and exposure to harsh weather conditions.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Thule base carrier system, consider the following:

  • Excessive Noise: Ensure all components are correctly installed and tightened. Check for any loose parts or improperly seated rubber pads. Removing the carrier when not in use can also reduce wind noise.
  • Difficulty Installing: Double-check that you have the correct kit (3068) for your specific vehicle model and year. Refer to the detailed fitting instructions and ensure all steps are followed precisely. Verify that the roof molding is compatible or has been replaced if necessary.
  • Carrier Feels Loose: Immediately stop driving and re-tighten all mounting bolts. If the issue persists, remove the carrier and re-install it, ensuring all components are correctly seated and tightened to the specified torque.
  • Damaged Components: Do not use a damaged carrier system. Contact Thule customer support or an authorized dealer for replacement parts.
