Setup

1. Inserting the Micro SD Card

The device supports Micro SD cards up to 64GB. For optimal performance, use high-speed cards (Class 10 or higher). Insert the Micro SD card into the TF card socket until it clicks into place. Ensure the card is inserted correctly to avoid damage.

2. Mounting the Dash Cam

Attach the suction cup mount to a clean, dry area on your windshield. Ensure the camera has a clear view of the road. Adjust the camera angle using the rotatable mount. Connect the car USB charger to the dash cam's USB interface and plug the other end into your vehicle's 12V power outlet.

Note: The power cord connects from the bottom of the unit. Consider this when positioning to minimize obstruction.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off and Recording

The dash cam is designed for automatic operation. When connected to your vehicle's power, it will automatically power on and begin recording when the engine starts. It will power off shortly after the engine is turned off.

2. Loop Recording

The dash cam utilizes loop-cycle recording. When the Micro SD card is full, the device will automatically overwrite the oldest recordings with new ones. This ensures continuous recording without manual intervention.

3. G-Sensor (Automatic Accident Capture)

The built-in G-Sensor automatically detects sudden impacts or collisions. In the event of an accident, the current video file will be locked to prevent it from being overwritten by loop recording, preserving critical evidence.

Figure 5: The G-sensor automatically triggers recording and locks footage upon sensing a collision or shaking.

4. Motion Detection and Parking Mode

These features allow the camera to record when motion is detected or when the vehicle is parked. To ensure continuous normal recording, ensure Motion Detection and Parking Mode settings are OFF during regular driving. If you wish to use these features while parked, they must be manually activated. For uninterrupted use of these features, the camera requires a constant power source, such as a hardwired connection, as it will power off with the vehicle's ignition otherwise, leading to date/time resets.

5. Video Quality and HDR

The AD260 supports multiple viewing angles and resolutions including 720p, 1080p, and 1296p, utilizing an Ambarella A7LA50 Chipset and OV4689 Lens for high-definition video capture. It also features WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) and HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology with a 4.0 megapixel CMOS sensor, enhancing photo-perceptivity by 30-50% in weak light environments. HDR helps balance exposure in challenging lighting conditions, such as entering or exiting tunnels.

6. Interface Navigation

Navigate through the device's menus using the physical buttons located on the dash cam. The 2.7" LCD display provides visual feedback for settings adjustments and video playback. Refer to Figure 2 for button identification.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the camera lens and the windshield area where the suction cup is mounted to ensure clear recordings and secure attachment. Use a soft, dry cloth.
  • Micro SD Card: Periodically format your Micro SD card within the camera's settings to maintain optimal performance and prevent data corruption. Back up important recordings before formatting.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the dash cam in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera Freezing or Resetting: If the camera freezes or resets its settings (like date and time), press the RESET button (refer to Figure 2) using a thin object like a paperclip. Ensure the power connection is stable. If the issue persists, consider using a different, high-quality Micro SD card.
  • Recording Issues: If the camera stops recording unexpectedly, verify that Motion Detection and Parking Mode are turned OFF during normal driving. Ensure the Micro SD card is not full or corrupted; format it if necessary.
  • Poor Audio Quality (Crackling): Check if the microphone input is obstructed. If the issue persists, it may indicate a hardware issue.
  • Suction Cup Detaching: Ensure the windshield surface is clean and dry before attaching the suction cup. Re-clean the area thoroughly if it detaches frequently.
  • Date/Time Resetting: This often occurs if the camera loses power when the vehicle is off. For continuous date/time retention, the camera needs a constant power supply, typically achieved through a hardwired installation that bypasses the ignition switch.
