Setup
Installation of the FPC-5281 access control system requires careful wiring and mounting of components. It is highly recommended that installation be performed by a qualified professional to ensure proper functionality and safety.
General Installation Steps:
- Planning: Determine the optimal placement for the magnetic lock, keypad, exit button, PIR sensor, and controller. Consider cable routing and power access.
- Mounting: Securely mount the magnetic lock to the door frame and door, ensuring proper alignment for the 300lbs holding force. Install the VIS-3000 keypad on the exterior side of the door and the VIS-7005 exit button on the interior side. Mount the VIS-MINI-CNTRL controller in a secure, protected location, typically near the door.
- Wiring: Connect all components to the VIS-MINI-CNTRL controller according to the provided wiring diagrams. Ensure all connections are secure and insulated. Pay close attention to power connections (12V DC) and data lines (Wiegand 26).
- Power Connection: Connect the UL listed 12V 1000mA power supplies to the system. Verify correct polarity.
- Initial Configuration: Power on the system. The VIS-3000 keypad will require initial programming to set up administrator codes and add user credentials (PINs, cards, keyfobs). Refer to the specific user manual for the VIS-3000 and VIS-MINI-CNTRL for detailed programming instructions.
- Testing: Thoroughly test all access methods (PIN, card, keytag) and the exit functionality (exit button, PIR sensor) to ensure the system operates as expected. Verify the magnetic lock engages and disengages correctly.

Figure 10: System Setup Diagram
Operating Instructions
Accessing the Door:
- Using a PIN Code: Enter your assigned PIN code on the VIS-3000 keypad, followed by the '#' key. The magnetic lock will disengage, allowing the door to open.
- Using a Proximity Card/Keytag: Present your registered proximity card or keytag to the VIS-3000 keypad. The magnetic lock will disengage upon successful recognition.
- Using Card + PIN: If configured for Card + PIN mode, present your card/keytag, then enter your PIN code followed by '#'.
- Exiting the Door: From the inside, press the VIS-7005 exit button or trigger the Irexplus PIR motion sensor. The magnetic lock will temporarily disengage, allowing you to exit.
Adding/Deleting Users (Administrator Function):
The VIS-3000 keypad and VIS-MINI-CNTRL controller allow for the management of user credentials. This typically involves entering a master code to access programming mode, then following prompts to add or delete user PINs, cards, or keyfobs. Refer to the detailed programming guide provided with the VIS-3000 and VIS-MINI-CNTRL for specific steps on user management.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your Visionis FPC-5281 access control system.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the VIS-3000 keypad surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or electronics.
- Connection Check: Annually, or if issues arise, inspect all wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion. Ensure power supply connections are secure.
- Magnetic Lock Inspection: Check the magnetic lock and armature plate for any debris or misalignment that could affect its holding force. Keep the contact surfaces clean.
- PIR Sensor Check: Ensure the PIR sensor's lens is clean and unobstructed. Test its functionality periodically to confirm it triggers correctly for exit requests.
- Firmware Updates: While this system is standalone and typically does not require software, check the Visionis website for any potential firmware updates for the keypad or controller that might enhance performance or address known issues.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your FPC-5281 access control system, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Keypad is unresponsive or no power. | No power to the keypad/controller; loose wiring. | Check power supply connections. Ensure the power adapter is plugged in and functional. Verify all wiring to the controller and keypad is secure. |
| Door does not unlock with valid PIN/card. | Incorrect PIN; unregistered card/keytag; magnetic lock issue; wiring problem. | Double-check the PIN code. Ensure the card/keytag is properly registered in the system. Inspect wiring between the controller and magnetic lock. Check if the magnetic lock is receiving power. |
| Magnetic lock does not engage/lock. | Power issue to the lock; faulty lock; door sensor issue. | Verify the lock is receiving constant power when the door should be locked. Check for any obstructions between the lock and armature plate. Consult a professional if the lock appears faulty. |
| Exit button or PIR sensor does not unlock the door. | Faulty button/sensor; wiring issue; incorrect controller setting. | Check wiring connections for the exit button and PIR sensor to the controller. Ensure the PIR sensor's detection area is clear. Verify controller settings for exit trigger. |
| Doorbell (VIS-8006) is not working. | Wiring issue; faulty doorbell unit. | Check the wiring connections for the doorbell. Ensure it is correctly connected to the keypad/controller. |
