Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of the Rectorseal 83909 Aspen Mini Orange 100-250V Condensate Pump. This self-priming pump is designed to remove condensate from HVAC systems, offering flexible installation options for various environments.
Safety Information
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, this pump has been evaluated for use with water only. Do not use with other liquids. Disconnect power before servicing. Installation must comply with all local electrical and plumbing codes.
- Ensure the power supply matches the pump's voltage requirements (100-250V AC, 50/60Hz).
- Do not immerse the pump in water.
- Keep hands clear of moving parts during operation.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
- Maximum water temperature: 40°C.

Setup and Installation
The Aspen Mini Orange pump offers flexible installation options. Choose the method best suited for your HVAC system.
1. Pump Placement
The pump can be installed remotely in several locations:
- Above the False Ceiling: The pump has a 5-foot suction lift capability, allowing it to be placed above the ceiling.
- Behind Wall-Mounted Evaporators: Its compact size allows for discreet placement.
- Inside Lineset Cover: Integrate the pump within the lineset cover for a clean installation.
Ensure the pump unit is accessible for future maintenance.
2. Reservoir Installation
The kit includes both pan mount and inline style reservoirs. Select the appropriate reservoir for your application.
- Pan Mount Reservoir: Place directly into the condensate drain pan of the HVAC unit. Ensure it is level and securely positioned to collect condensate effectively.
- Inline Reservoir: Install in the condensate drain line before the pump. This is suitable when direct pan placement is not feasible.
Connect the reservoir to the pump's inlet using the provided tubing. Ensure a tight, leak-free connection.
3. Tubing Connections
- Inlet Tubing: Connect the condensate source (drain pan or inline reservoir) to the pump's inlet.
- Outlet Tubing: Connect the pump's outlet to a suitable drain point. Ensure the outlet tubing has a continuous downward slope to prevent airlocks and ensure proper drainage.
- Anti-Siphoning Device: Install the anti-siphoning device in the discharge line as close to the pump as possible, and above the maximum water level in the reservoir. This prevents water from siphoning back into the system when the pump is off.
4. Electrical Connection
The pump operates on 100-250V AC. Use the provided power cable with modular terminals for fast and secure connection.
- Connect the power cable to the pump unit.
- Wire the pump to a switched power supply that is active only when the HVAC unit is operating.
- The pump includes alarm contacts. These can be wired to shut down the HVAC unit or trigger an alarm in case of pump failure or high-level condensate detection, preventing overflow. Refer to your HVAC system's manual for wiring alarm contacts.
- Install the in-line fuse (red wire) on the positive power line for circuit protection.
Always ensure power is disconnected before making any electrical connections.
Operating Instructions
Once properly installed and powered, the Rectorseal 83909 Aspen Mini Orange pump operates automatically.
- The pump is self-priming, meaning it will automatically draw water once condensate enters the reservoir and activates the float switch.
- When the condensate level in the reservoir rises, the float switch activates the pump, which then discharges the water through the outlet tubing.
- The pump will continue to run until the condensate level drops below the activation point, at which time it will shut off.
Monitor the pump's operation during its initial cycles to ensure proper function and absence of leaks.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your condensate pump.
- Monthly Inspection: Check the reservoir for sludge or debris buildup. Clean if necessary.
- Cleaning the Reservoir: Disconnect power to the pump. Remove the reservoir and clean it with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Ensure the float mechanism moves freely.
- Tubing Inspection: Check inlet and outlet tubing for kinks, blockages, or signs of wear. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Pump Unit: Inspect the pump unit for any visible damage or unusual noises during operation.
- Seasonal Maintenance: Before and after periods of heavy use (e.g., cooling season), perform a thorough cleaning and operational check.
Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance.
Troubleshooting
Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump not running | No power; Float switch stuck; Blocked inlet/outlet; Motor failure | Check power supply and fuse; Clean reservoir and free float; Clear blockages; Contact support if motor fails. |
| Water overflow from reservoir | Pump not running (see above); Outlet tubing blocked/kinked; Pump capacity exceeded | Address pump not running issues; Clear outlet tubing; Ensure pump capacity matches HVAC output. |
| Excessive noise during operation | Air in pump/tubing; Pump not securely mounted; Debris in pump; Worn components | Bleed air from system; Securely mount pump; Clean pump; Contact support for worn components. |
| Water leaking | Loose connections; Damaged tubing/reservoir; Cracked pump housing | Tighten all connections; Replace damaged tubing/reservoir; Contact support for housing damage. |
