1. Introduction

The Deftun MSR-X6(BT) is a compact and portable magnetic stripe card reader/writer designed for reading, writing, and erasing data on magnetic stripe cards. It supports ISO 7811-6 formats and is compatible with various operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, and Android via both Bluetooth and USB interfaces. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up and operating your device.

3. Setup Guide

3.1 Initial Charging

Before first use, ensure the device is fully charged. Connect the device to a USB power source using the provided USB cable. An LED indicator will show charging status.

3.2 Software Installation (Windows/Mac OS)

Insert the provided Software CD into your computer's CD drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install the necessary drivers and application for Windows or Mac OS.

3.3 Mobile App Installation (iOS/Android)

For mobile use, download the "EasyMSR" application from the Google Play Store (for Android devices) or the Apple App Store (for iPhone/iPad). This app facilitates Bluetooth connectivity and card operations.

3.4 Connecting via Bluetooth

To connect the MSR-X6(BT) to your mobile device via Bluetooth:

  1. Ensure the MSR-X6(BT) device is powered on.
  2. On your mobile device, go to Settings and enable Bluetooth.
  3. Open the "EasyMSR" app.
  4. Within the app, select the MSR-X6(BT) device from the list of available Bluetooth devices to establish a connection. The app will indicate when the device is successfully connected ("Device Online!").

4. Operating Instructions

The MSR-X6(BT) supports reading, writing, and erasing data on magnetic stripe cards across Tracks 1, 2, and 3. It is compatible with Hi-Co and Lo-Co cards (300~4000 OE).

4.1 Swiping Cards

When swiping a card, ensure the magnetic strip is aligned correctly and swiped evenly along the direction of the magnetic head. Refer to the video in Section 3.4 for a visual demonstration.

4.2 Read Card

To read data from a magnetic card:

  1. In the EasyMSR app (or desktop software), select the "Read Card" option.
  2. Swipe the card through the device.
  3. The data from Tracks 1, 2, and 3 will be displayed.

4.3 Write Card

To write data to a magnetic card:

  1. Enter the desired data for Tracks 1, 2, and/or 3 in the app/software.
  2. Select the "Write Card" option.
  3. Swipe a blank or erasable card through the device.
  4. The data will be written to the card.

4.4 Copy Card

To copy data from one card to another:

  1. Select the "Copy Card" option.
  2. Swipe the source card to read its data.
  3. Swipe the target card (blank or erasable) to write the copied data.

4.5 Erase Card

To erase data from a magnetic card:

  1. Select the "Erase Card" option.
  2. Choose which tracks you wish to erase.
  3. Swipe the card through the device.
  4. The selected tracks will be erased.

4.6 Setting Data Type

The device supports various data types for magnetic stripe encoding, including ISO, AAMVA, CaDMV, RawData, and UserType. You can select the appropriate data type within the software/app settings to ensure compatibility with your specific card requirements.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MSR-X6(BT) device:

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning the exterior.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Regularly clean the magnetic head using a specialized magnetic head cleaning card (not included, but recommended for purchase).
