4.1 X AIR App Control

Download and install the Behringer X AIR app from your device's app store (Apple App Store for iPad, Google Play Store for Android). Launch the app and connect to your XR16 mixer via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The app provides a comprehensive interface for all mixer functions, including:

  • Bus mixing (AUX sends, Main L/R).
  • Effects processing (reverbs, delays, modulations).
  • Routing and scene management.

4.2 Midas Preamps and Audio Quality

The XR16 features 8 Midas-designed microphone preamps, known for their high-quality sound reproduction and low noise. These preamps are fully programmable via the X AIR app, allowing precise control over gain and other parameters for each input.

4.3 Auto-Mixing Functionality

The integrated Dugan-style Auto-Mixing feature automatically manages microphone gain sharing. This is particularly useful in situations with multiple active microphones, such as panel discussions or theatrical performances, ensuring consistent audio levels and reducing feedback.

4.4 USB Stereo Recording and Playback

The USB port on the XR16 allows for direct stereo recording of your main mix (Main L/R) to a USB flash drive in uncompressed WAV format. You can also play back stereo WAV files from the USB drive through the mixer. This feature is useful for recording live performances or playing backing tracks.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your Behringer X AIR XR16, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked. Adequate airflow is essential to prevent overheating.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the mixer in a cool, dry place, ideally in its original packaging or a protective case.
  • Cable Management: Regularly check all cables for wear and tear. Replace damaged cables immediately to prevent signal issues or electrical hazards.
