Product Overview

The ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 is a high-performance DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem designed to provide fast and reliable internet connectivity. It enhances your online experience by bonding up to eight downstream channels and four upstream channels, supporting data rates up to 343 Mbps download and 131 Mbps upload, depending on your cable internet provider's service plan. This modem is ideal for streaming HD video, online gaming, and general internet usage.

Key features include:

• Approved for use with major US Cable Internet Providers such as Comcast Xfinity, Spectrum (Charter, Time Warner, Brighthouse Networks), Cox, and Mediacom. Not compatible with Verizon, AT&T, or Centurylink.
• Wired modem only; does not include a WiFi router or VOIP telephone adapter.
• Features a Gigabit Ethernet port for connecting to a PC or router.
• Supports both IPv4 and IPv6 internet protocols.
• Recommended for internet plans up to 100 Mbps.

Note: A coaxial cable is required for connection to your cable outlet and is not included in the package.

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to set up your ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 cable modem:

1. Choose a Location: Select a location near a cable outlet and an electrical outlet. Ensure the area has good airflow to prevent overheating. Avoid placing the modem in enclosed spaces or near heat sources.
2. Connect Coaxial Cable: Connect one end of a coaxial cable (not included) to the cable outlet and the other end to the Cable port on the back of the SB6141 modem. Hand-tighten the connectors.
3. Connect Ethernet Cable: Connect one end of the supplied Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of the SB6141 modem and the other end to the WAN (Internet) port of your router, or directly to the Ethernet port of your computer if not using a router.
4. Connect Power: Connect the power cable to the Power port on the back of the SB6141 modem, then plug the other end into an electrical outlet. The modem will begin its startup sequence.
5. Observe LED Indicators: Allow several minutes for the modem to power on and establish a connection. The front panel LEDs will flash and then become solid as the modem connects to your cable network. Refer to the "Operating Status Indicators" section for details on LED behavior.
6. Activate Your Modem: Once the modem is powered on and connected, you will need to activate it with your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
   • Locate the MAC address (CM MAC) and Serial Number (S/N) on the label on the bottom or back of your modem.
   • Contact your ISP's customer service or visit their activation website. Provide them with the MAC address and serial number when prompted.
   • Your ISP will provision the modem for your service plan. This process may take a few minutes.

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 modem, consider the following maintenance tips:

• Placement: Keep the modem in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and obstructions that could block airflow. The modem is designed with perforations for passive cooling.
• Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the modem with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
• Power Cycle: If you experience connectivity issues, a simple power cycle can often resolve them. Unplug the power cable from the modem, wait for about 10-15 seconds, and then plug it back in. Allow the modem to fully restart and re-establish its connection.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 modem, try the following troubleshooting steps:

• No Internet Connection:
  • Verify all cables (coaxial, Ethernet, power) are securely connected.
  • Check the front panel LEDs. If the "Online" LED is not solid green, the modem is not fully connected to your ISP's network.
  • Perform a power cycle of the modem and your router (if applicable).
  • Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to confirm service status in your area and ensure your modem is properly provisioned.
• Slow Speeds:
  • Ensure your internet plan supports the speeds you expect. The SB6141 is recommended for plans up to 100 Mbps.
  • If using a router, try connecting your computer directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable to rule out router-related issues.
  • Contact your ISP to check for network congestion or signal issues in your area.
• LEDs Not Lighting Up:
  • Ensure the power adapter is correctly plugged into both the modem and a working electrical outlet.
  • Try a different electrical outlet.
