6. Adding the Smart Switch to Your Z-Wave Network

To enable smart control, you must add the switch to a Z-Wave certified gateway (hub).

  1. Prepare Your Controller: Follow your Z-Wave certified gateway's instructions to prepare your controller for pairing (inclusion mode).
  2. Initiate Pairing: Once your hub is ready, press and release the program button on the smart switch to include it into the network.
  3. S2 Security (if applicable): Some hubs offer an S2 security option. If prompted, enter the 5-digit Device Specific Key (DSK) security number found next to the QR code on the back of the packaging or inside the switch housing. The QR code can also be scanned if supported by your hub.

8. Maintenance

The Enbrighten Smart Switch is designed for durability and minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks are recommended:

  • Terminal Check: Check all terminals 24 hours after installation to ensure specifications are still met and connections are secure.
  • Enclosure Integrity: Periodically inspect the metal enclosure for any signs of damage or compromise to its weather-resistant seal.
  • Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the enclosure with a damp cloth as needed. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Firmware Updates: Check your Z-Wave hub's documentation for any available firmware updates for connected devices, including this smart switch.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Enbrighten Smart Switch, consider the following:

  • No Power: Verify that power is restored at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Check all wiring connections for tightness.
  • Device Not Responding: Ensure the switch is within range of your Z-Wave hub. Obstructions like thick walls or metal objects can reduce signal strength.
  • Cannot Pair: Ensure your Z-Wave hub is in inclusion mode. Try moving the hub closer to the switch during pairing. If issues persist, try excluding the device from the network (even if it wasn't successfully included) and then re-attempt inclusion.
  • Intermittent Control: This may indicate poor Z-Wave signal. Consider adding Z-Wave repeaters or repositioning your hub.
  • Manual Override Not Working: Check the internal toggle switch to ensure it is not set to the 'Z-Wave' only mode.
