2. Setup and Installation

This section provides general guidelines for installing your Intel Core i7-5775C processor. Always refer to your motherboard's specific manual for detailed instructions, as procedures may vary.

2.1 Safety Precautions

  • Ensure your system is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet before beginning installation.
  • Discharge any static electricity by touching a grounded metal object (e.g., your computer case) before handling components.
  • Handle the processor by its edges to avoid touching the gold contacts or the top surface.
  • Avoid bending the pins on the processor or the motherboard socket.

2.2 Processor Installation (LGA 1150 Socket)

  1. Prepare the Motherboard: Locate the LGA 1150 CPU socket on your motherboard. Lift the load lever and open the metal load plate.
  2. Align the Processor: Carefully remove the processor from its protective packaging. Align the two notches on the processor with the corresponding keys on the CPU socket. Ensure the gold triangle on the processor aligns with the triangle on the socket.
  3. Insert the Processor: Gently lower the processor straight down into the socket. Do not force it. It should sit flush without significant pressure.
  4. Secure the Processor: Close the metal load plate over the processor. Lower the load lever and push it back into place until it clicks, securing the processor firmly in the socket.
  5. Apply Thermal Paste (if not pre-applied): If your heat sink does not have pre-applied thermal paste, apply a small pea-sized dot of thermal paste to the center of the processor's integrated heat spreader (IHS).
  6. Install the Heat Sink and Fan: Place the included fan and heat sink assembly directly over the installed processor. Align the four fasteners on the heat sink with the holes on the motherboard. Press down firmly on each fastener until it clicks into place. Connect the fan's power cable to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.

3. Operating the Processor

Once installed, your Intel Core i7-5775C processor will operate automatically. However, certain settings can be adjusted via the motherboard's BIOS/UEFI firmware to optimize performance or manage power.

3.1 BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Accessing BIOS/UEFI: During system startup, repeatedly press the designated key (commonly Del, F2, F10, or F12) to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup utility.
  • Memory Settings: Ensure your DDR3 1600 MHz memory is detected and configured correctly. You may need to enable XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) for optimal performance if your memory supports it.
  • Overclocking (Unlocked Processor): The i7-5775C is an unlocked processor, allowing for overclocking. Exercise caution when adjusting CPU core ratios, voltages, and other parameters. Refer to advanced guides and ensure adequate cooling to prevent system instability or damage.
  • Integrated Graphics: The Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 is integrated. If you are using a dedicated graphics card, ensure the primary display output is set correctly in the BIOS/UEFI.

3.2 Software and Drivers

Install the latest chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website and graphics drivers for the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 from Intel's official website for optimal performance and stability.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your processor.

  • Dust Removal: Regularly clean dust from the CPU heat sink and fan using compressed air. Accumulation of dust can impede airflow and lead to overheating.
  • Thermal Paste: Over time, thermal paste can dry out. If you notice increased CPU temperatures, consider reapplying fresh thermal paste. This involves carefully removing the heat sink, cleaning off old paste, and applying new paste.
  • BIOS/UEFI Updates: Periodically check your motherboard manufacturer's website for BIOS/UEFI updates. These updates can improve compatibility, stability, and performance.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your processor, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Display/System Not Booting:
    • Ensure the CPU is correctly seated in the socket and the load lever is fully engaged.
    • Verify that the CPU fan is connected to the CPU_FAN header and spinning.
    • Check that all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin EPS) are securely connected to the motherboard.
    • Try reseating the RAM modules.
    • Clear the CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) settings on your motherboard (refer to your motherboard manual).
  • Overheating/System Shutdowns:
    • Ensure the CPU heat sink is properly installed and making good contact with the processor.
    • Verify that thermal paste has been correctly applied.
    • Clean any dust accumulation from the heat sink fins and fan.
    • Check case airflow and fan configurations.
  • System Instability/Crashes:
    • If overclocking, revert to default BIOS settings.
    • Ensure memory is running at its rated speed and timings (enable XMP if applicable).
    • Update motherboard BIOS/UEFI and all relevant drivers.
