Setup
Unpacking
Carefully remove the utility knife from its packaging. Inspect the knife for any signs of damage. If damaged, do not use and contact customer support.
Blade Installation (Initial Setup)
- Locate the screw on the side of the knife handle.
- Using a suitable screwdriver, loosen and remove the screw.
- Carefully separate the two halves of the handle.
- Position a new utility blade onto the internal pins or guides, ensuring it is securely seated. The knife comes with 3 blades included.
- Align the two handle halves and reinsert the screw.
- Tighten the screw firmly, but do not overtighten, to secure the blade and handle.
Operating Instructions
General Use
The Stanley 10-209 is designed for cutting various materials such as cardboard, carpet, drywall, and other general-purpose materials. Ensure the blade is sharp before beginning any task.
- Grip: Hold the knife firmly with a secure grip, ensuring your fingers are clear of the blade path.
- Cutting Technique: Apply steady, even pressure. For thicker materials, multiple shallow passes are often safer and more effective than one deep cut.
- Work Surface: Always use a cutting mat or a sacrificial surface underneath the material to protect your work area and maintain blade sharpness.
Maintenance
Blade Replacement
Replace the blade when it becomes dull or damaged. A dull blade requires more force and increases the risk of injury.
- Follow the same steps as "Blade Installation" in the Setup section.
- Carefully remove the dull blade and dispose of it safely.
- Insert a new, sharp blade.
Cleaning and Storage
- After each use, wipe down the knife handle and blade (if exposed) with a dry cloth to remove any debris.
- Do not immerse the knife in water.
- Store the knife in a dry place to prevent rust, especially on the blade. The knife features a hang-hole for adding a wrist strap or lanyard for convenient storage.
