1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your BLACK+DECKER D3031-LA Ceramic Steam Iron. Please read all instructions carefully before using the appliance and retain this manual for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

  • Always unplug the iron when filling with water, emptying, or when not in use.
  • Do not operate the iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. Contact customer service for repair.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
  • The iron must be used and rested on a stable surface.
  • Do not leave the iron unattended while it is connected or on an ironing board.
  • Keep the iron and its cord out of reach of children.
  • The iron features a 3-position automatic shut-off for safety. If left motionless on its soleplate for 30 seconds, or on its side or heel rest for 8 minutes, it will automatically turn off. The indicator light will flash to signal this. Move the iron to reset.
  • Use only tap water for filling the water tank. Do not use distilled water, scented water, or water containing additives, as this can damage the iron.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking

Remove all packaging materials, labels, and stickers from the iron. Retain any warning labels. It is normal for a new iron to produce a slight odor or emit small particles during the first few uses. This will dissipate.

4.2 First Use

Before first use, test the iron on an old piece of fabric to ensure no residue from manufacturing is transferred to your garments.

4.3 Filling the Water Tank

  1. Ensure the iron is unplugged.
  2. Hold the iron with the soleplate facing down.
  3. Open the water fill opening.
  4. Carefully pour tap water into the opening until the 'MAX' fill line is reached. Do not overfill.
  5. Close the water fill opening securely.

The iron features an anti-drip system to prevent water leakage at low temperatures.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Temperature Selection

Turn the Steam/Temperature Dial to the desired fabric setting. Refer to garment care labels for appropriate temperature settings. Always start with lower temperatures for delicate fabrics and increase as needed.

  1. Ensure the water tank is empty or the steam setting is off.
  2. Plug in the iron. The pilot light will illuminate.
  3. Set the Steam/Temperature Dial to the desired temperature.
  4. Wait for the pilot light to turn off, indicating the iron has reached the set temperature.
  5. Begin ironing.

  3. Allow the iron to heat until the pilot light turns off.
  4. Hold the iron vertically, a few inches away from the fabric.
  5. Press the Steam Shot Button repeatedly to release bursts of steam.

5.5 Spray Function

Use the spray mist to dampen stubborn wrinkles.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Point the spray nozzle towards the fabric.
  3. Press the Spray Button to release a fine mist.

5.6 Steam Shot

The powerful steam shot can be used for extra stubborn wrinkles or for vertical steaming.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled and the iron is set to a high temperature.
  2. Press the Steam Shot Button to release a powerful burst of steam.
  3. Allow a few seconds between shots for the steam to regenerate.

6. Maintenance and Care

6.1 Cleaning the Soleplate

To clean the ceramic soleplate, ensure the iron is unplugged and completely cool. Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh scouring pads or metallic cleaners, as these can scratch the soleplate.

6.2 Cleaning the Exterior

Wipe the exterior surfaces of the iron with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

6.3 Self-Cleaning Function

Regularly use the self-cleaning function to prevent mineral buildup and maintain optimal steam performance.

  1. Fill the water tank to the 'MAX' line.
  2. Plug in the iron and set the Steam/Temperature Dial to the highest setting (e.g., Linen).
  3. Allow the iron to heat until the pilot light turns off.
  4. Unplug the iron.
  5. Hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
  6. Press and hold the Self-Clean button (if available, otherwise use the Steam Shot button repeatedly while shaking the iron gently) until all water has drained from the tank, carrying out mineral deposits.
  7. Release the button and place the iron on its heel rest to cool.

6.4 Storage

Once the iron has completely cooled, empty any remaining water from the tank. Store the iron upright on its heel rest to protect the soleplate. Wrap the power cord loosely around the heel rest or use the cord clip if provided.
